I agree that a knife can make a defense weapon.

You might not feel as strongly about the knife thing if you lived in one of the States that must issue a Concealed Firearms Permit - just for asking.

You know that I would not hesitate to use a knife to defend myself or anyone I cared about but a gun is much better and it is legal in more and more states.

Mike, I can not agree with you more. I would choose a gun over a knife any day. I'm just saying that if it came down to it, I would use whatever I could. If I didn't have a pistol on me then the knife I have on me would be the next thing I would go for. I hear a lot of guys say that you should not use a knife for self defense, I hear some say that you shouldn't use a knife for self defense unless you've had proper training, and I hear some say that you should just run. I'm saying that if I saw someone dragging my niece toward a car and I only had my knife, which I have nearly zero training on how to use as a weapon, I would use it in that instance.

Screwdrivers and hammers work pretty fucking good too. I also like the 14-18" aluminum pipe wrenches. I always have those handy at work.

I agree with OnceBitten. Go with a Benchmade Griptilian. They are light weight, tough as nails, and they warranty it for life. Plus they will sharpen it for free any time. I don't think they warranty the blade if you break it prying or something but I wanna say I paid like $20 for a replacement blade when I snapped mine in a tree.
