Thread: What folding knife?

    What folding knife?

I'm looking for a new folding knife with a clip on it. What are some good brands to look for? I was looking at CRKT and they have some pretty nice folders.

You need to tell us what your intended uses are, and your budget.

Will consider purchasing Ben Cardoso or Nathan Dewey balisongs... pm me with a description/price if you might sell.

Basically, I'll just be using it as a tool, but of course I may need it for self defense. I'll spend no more than $100 for one.

So now you're on the record for carrying a knife for self defense.

Based on that statement, in the eyes of LE you're carrying a weapon.

What are the laws about carrying a knife as a weapon where you live.

    I'll add...

Do you know anyone that has used a knife for self defense?

    If you had...

You would know that a knife is not a good self defense tool.

A knife is a tool - a tool designed for cutting. If you intend to use it as a prybar or screwdriver then get a multitool. If you intend to use the knife as a knife, you need to tell us the sort of materials you will be cutting and how often (if you open and close the knife a lot then some designs are bettter than others) so we can make suitable recommendations.

I don't believe any responsible person will recommend a knife for self defense - for practical and legal reasons.

BTW - About the only CRKT I really like is the Eros, unfortunately that one is way over your budget and more of a "corporate wear" folder than one I would use if I was working in a warehouse or supermarket. The M16 LE (and discontinued Ti models) are sorta OK but not the ideal design for the uses I put an EDC knife to. I dislike the budget versions of this series.

The M16-14SF is a great budget knife. Better in fact than some more pricey stuff.

    A few choices:

The Centofante 3 is likely the best Bang for the Buck at a little over $60.

I've always wanted one of those for the blade shape. It looks very versatile.

I think a lot of bad advice is given about knives as self defense weapons. One of the worst pieces of advice I hear is "Don't use a knife as a self defense weapon.".

I carry a knife everyday. It is intended to be used as a tool. I don't want to use it as a self defense weapon, but if I need to use it a such then I will. If I'm defending myself or a loved one then I'll do whatever is necessary to get the job done. I would not be worrying about legal ramifications. A knife would not be my number one choice, but if it's what I got then it's what I got.

It's never good advice to tell someone not to defend themselves by any means necessary.

Anyway, to answer the OP, I would look into a Cold Steel American Lawman or a Spyderco Manix 2.

    Tony,

I agree that a knife can make a defense weapon.

You might not feel as strongly about the knife thing if you lived in one of the States that must issue a Concealed Firearms Permit - just for asking.

You know that I would not hesitate to use a knife to defend myself or anyone I cared about but a gun is much better and it is legal in more and more states.
