once again something wicked my way came...

Forgive me brothers for I have sinned. I know in the past on other forums I said I would not buy a Mitchell Mauser; but my friend who owns a gun shop made me a deal I couldn't refuse; so for $300 I bought an 8mm carbine based on the M48 action; made by Zavasta. Mitchell is the importer; but I checked Zavasta's website and they make and sell this gun in .243, .308, .30-06, and 8mm. I know the tanker is a fantasy piece - unless you buy into Mitchell's lack of truth in advertising it really is a nice little cannon. I'll let you all know how it shoots.

I also went to my local gun shop and added another "vintage" .22, (for $125) a Springfield/Stevens (owned by Savage) Model 87A, a 15 shot tube magazine semi-auto:

ordinarily i would let it slide, but,.......it's ZASTAVA kragujevac.

Is the fit and finish as nicely done as on the ak variants? Thats one of the things i like most about these yugos.

I bought one of Mitchell's Tankers in 30-06 almost a year ago. Overall, I'm happy with it. It shoots quite well with just about any 150 FMJ load, and the sights were well regulated out of the box.

The stock is a bit chunky & not finished to a very high standard, but the metalwork is good & very nicely blued. All it needs now is a good trigger job or aftermarket trigger to be perfect. A cushy buttpad would be nice, but I'd hate to lose the military look.

I've run across a few of the original FN tanker/carbines at gun shows over the years, but they sell quickly for good money, even in very poor condition.

I just wish I was right-handed so I could work the bolt a bit quicker!

    "Honey...

    I shrunk the 98K!"

Congrats on your nice little Mauser! Reminds me of the G.33/40 mountain carbine...

Would really look bitchin' with a side sling cutout, dis-assembly disc
in the side, cupped butt-plate and 98K-style cutout under the bolt knob!

Please do keep us posted on how it shoots!

    John
