Lets make a list of good werewolf movies

I've always liked dogs, and have really liked wolves. I wouldn't say I know too much about them, just the basics. They're still pretty neat though. I got my user ID from shirt someone bought me, a picture of a wolf stalking silently in the night snow, and it says Silent Hunter on it. I wouldn't say I'm anything like that wolf, but I thought it was cool at the time.

Anyway, I really like werewolf movies, to a degree. As long as they keep the basic characteristics of the wolf, I like them. Some that come to mind are

An American Werewolf in London. Pretty corny FX for today, but I liked it.

Silver Bullet, an okay movie from King from a kick ass book, Cycle of the Werewolf.

Dogsoldiers, the werewolves were a little over the top, but a very cool movie.

Brotherhood of the Wolf, not really a werewolf movie, for those who have seen it, you'll know why at the end, but a good "wolf" movie nonetheless.

Wolf, an okay Jack Nicholson movie.

Wolfman, seen bits and parts of it, enjoyed the movie.

Crywolf, with Christina Ricci was okay, only saw parts of it, never caught the ending, liked the were dog.

I've never seen the Howling series, never seen the sequel to American Werewolf, if you list Teen Wolf, beware. Any good recommendations for werewolf movies?

The Gingersnaps series about two sisters, one being a werewolf, are all not bad. The Howling series runs from okay to terrible IMHO. An American Werewolf in Paris had much better FX, but thinner plot. This from a guy who's been wearing this around for over a decade.

    Ah... the Lupus Garu...

In my opinion, the special effects in Underworld best represented the physical prowess and power of the Crinos form.

In essence in a one on one fight, most Garu would defeat a leech with little trouble. However the one caviat of this was the werewold was never and never ought to be an imortal. The werewolf was natures defence and reaction to the vampire.

The greatest vampires gained in power and strength over the years and while they were few and far inbetween, they were more powerful than any single garu could ever be. Thus the strength of the pack became the true strength of these monsterous, yet spiritual creatures of myth and fable.

I couldn't agree with you more. I see just about every werewolf movie that comes out, including every one you listed and I enjoy them all to some degree.

Werewolf movies tend to be lower budget for some reason. Why do the vampires get all the money??? Fuckin' eurotrash homos!!!

My all-time favorite would be American Werewolf in London since I saw it when I was 12 or so and it scared the crap out of me. The guy in the row in front of me completely showered us with popcorn he jumped so high.

I saw Wolfen with Albert Finney the same year (1981). I read the book first which had an entirely different (meaning better) storyline.

You were right, Cursed. I never finished the movie.

General, I used to be into werewolves a lot when I was a teenager, never a goth etc, just liked the concept. Werewolves should have long life, and their hides should be thick, just not too thick, a 10 gauge, a 50cal, should be able to pierce their hide, not necessarily take them down. A friend of mine, a comic book writer/artist in KY, made a series of indy comics about werewolves, I haven't heard from him in some time, he may have stopped the series, I don't know, but he had a neat concept on the werewolf/vampire battle. God, that sounds stupid. Gonna have to check out Wolfen. Keep the movies coming. Thanks.

Anyway, maybe my love for the wolf has something to do with the fact that I am part American Indian. Blackfoot, Cherokee and Crow. The American Indian has long had a special bond with the wolf. Who knows.

    Nice tat, btw!

Thanks, I've had the 'wolf' thing going for quite a while too. Started as a radio call sign in the 80's, went from there.

Remember "The Howling" movies. Those were so scary back in the day.

I liked Bugs Bunny and Little Red Riding Hood.

No but really, The Wolf Man with Lon Chaney. American Werewolf in London was good.
I like it when he hooks up with the English Lass. Him hooking up with her made it realistic for the time the movie was made and I found her, well lets just say something close has happened in real live. His friend talking to him dead and ripped to pieces was pretty cool too.

Apparently I can't really remember any of these movies, because Ron just informed me that they were like softcore porn. I don't remember that. All I remember was when the one dude changed into one, & was salivating all over......gross!

The original was pretty good with Dee Wallace (Stone). "Howling II: Your Sister is a Werewolf" was softcore porn. The rest were kinda pathetic.

So you're both right, and wrong.

Possibly the greatest EVER werewolf movie is Monster Dog, starring Alice Cooper.

Its SOOOOOOOO bad its actually quite good. I paid $25 to get a copy on tape shipped to the UK as it was never released in this country and after seeing a trailer for it when I was 20, I just HAD to see it, took me 4 years of searching ebay, but I got it eventually

On a more serious note the Underworld series is great for how the Weres look and move and theres also Kate in her 'wipe clean' outfit
