The trunnion is the milled steel block that the barrel is pressed and pinned into. The bolt locks up into it when a cartridge is chambered.

ETA: There's a rear trunnion as well for the butt stock.

Getting back to the original post, I know way more about AR platforms than AK, but I've got to think that it would be more cost effective to sell that gun to someone from the People's Republic of California, and just pick up one that runs on hi caps than converting that gun.
Just to clarify, I can read that his avatar says Mississippi, LMFAO! I don't know the guy personally and assumed maybe he's actually in CA being that he bought a CA legal rifle.

Hell bro, if your in Mississippi dump that Egyptian thumbhole turd and pick up a real AK. That Maddi is fine if it's all you can have but if it's game on legally, find yourself a CA buyer and score yourself a better platform than dumping all your hard earned cash into the Maddi. Good luck whatever you do

"Narrower where the mag would lock in. Big pain to change. You would need to re-revit in a new one and then re-headspace the barrel or take the original one and try to hog it out enough to fit the wider mag in there. Either way they would have to remove it and re-rivet in one. Tell them to sell it to someone in NJ.. they can only have 15rd mags anyway and the biggest single stack you can get it a 10rd."
Be all excepting, to an extent. (My wife Anita's dinner time advice to our 8yo son.)

y'all are a rough crowd! sell it, sell it... well hell what am i going to tell my little girl then? actually I kind of like it.... really may want to keep it, regardless.... so what's the value on it?? or maybe i let the kali guys find their own weapons and when their sources run dry, maybe they'll stand for their own gun rights? so how much should i ask for it?

Well if this is the case it won't be worth it. I'm surprised they would actually manufacture a dedicated trunnion. I thought they all used surplus AKM trunnions.

Try to unload it and get yourself an Arsenal SGL-21.

Hell if you like the Maadi you should it keep it

I just wouldn't put too much $$$ into that one. If you want the double stack full capacity mags pick up another AK with a better platform to start while they're still reasonably priced. You can never have too many nice guns around

I'm certainly no expert the Polytech is just the one I like...I had a MAK 90 with an underfolder stock too but I got an offer that tripled my money so it was hard not to let that one go. That MAK90 was a helluva lot of fun too. Another nice thing about the more desireable AKs is they hold their value and even go up in value if you take care of them.

Be safe with that AK and have fun with it. Last thought, be sure to stock plenty of ammo as it's not getting any cheaper either

I definitely need to be stockpiling some 7.62x39. ALL my guns seem to fire it, even my 1911! lmao, seriously, 4 guns that I own fire it, and another one that I want. I did not know they made an underfolder MAK-90, from what I read it was initiated to be imported under an assault weapons ban and came with a Thumbhole stock (that could not be changed). That's what the one I have carries anyway. It's a sweet set-up except for the fact that the recoil has stripped the screws out in the rear of the receiver.

Keep it. Save up and buy what you want. You can never have too many guns. Hell if they made an AK in a single shot it would be worth keeping for one reason or another........

Why is it acceptable for you to be an asshole, but un-acceptable for me to point it out?

Yugoslavian manufactured M67 Mil-Surplus 124 Gr. FMJ would be my recommendation. When I can find it, case lot purchases are the norm. It's very good ammo...

I usually just pick up the cheapest, honestly. I am not doing any competition shooting, and the cheap stuff seems to do ok in those type actions.... plus my AKs are cleaner than ANY in Iraq or Afghanistan!

I think your MAADI is a MISR-10 and they are good guns too. I've never heard about the trunnion being different on those. You'll need a good AK mechanic to look at it and tell you for sure. If it is, the conversion process could get complicated. Saigas have a different trunnion but you add a simple part to make it work.

If your trunnion is normal, that is only the start of the fun. AFAIK, when you convert any post-ban gun to another configuration like accepting hi-cap mags, you also need to add US made compliance parts so you are legal under the 922r regs. That is ~$120-150 in parts. Here's the whole story -

Depending on how attached you are to the MAADI, I'd consider flipping it for an AK already set up and ready to rock. The MAADI is a desirable gun and there are AK enthusiasts that would want it to make it into a Russian clone. Something to consider at least.

I have a post ban Pars imported Maadi RML AKM that I bought in 1994. I converted to preban 922r a couple of years ago. It is one of my favorite AKMs to shoot.
I was able to re-thread the turned down muzzle very easily. Measure the muzzle and if you have an OD of at least .50" you can purchase the dye, tap, cutting oil, thread alignment tool and US made slant brake from CNC Warrior and thread it 1/2 x 28 RH. I think I spent $60- $70 total. It took me less than 30 minutes to do.

You can get a Maadi black pistol grip from Apexgunparts for $10. They do not have any of the brown pistol grips left, but they are out there for cheap if you look. Also, if you do thread the barrel you will want to get a front sight block detent and spring. They are out of Egyptians, but Apex has the Romainian that will work fine for $8. Shoot me a PM if you need any help.
