Interesting to hear this much support of the 51 over the 4x series. I loved my 32, and have wanted a 51 ever since, and now finally have the cash. I am looking forward to making it my EDC and flipper.

I personally like the 32 a lot better than the 51. Sure, the 51 is a better dedicated flipper due to handle length alone, but I think the 32 is better balanced and definitely think it's a better EDC blade. I think there is way too much flex in the 51 blade and pivot/blade junction.
What's REALLY been impressing the hell out of me for an EDC blade is the Alpha Beast. It just feels like a hard core fixed blade never mind the fact that it's the best flipper I've ever held.
What killed me with the 32 was the flipping. It was my first "real" bali, and its not something that is conducive to learning tricks on. I went and got the B200, but the fit and finish was pretty bad. Had a kimura but it was crazy heavy. I would kill to even be able to handle an alpha beast, but dropping $400 on one just isnt in the cards. not for a full time college student paying out of state tuition. One day though, one of those shall be mine. I am however looking forward to whatever BRS is coming out with next. I have heard some rumors about maybe something a bit more affordable?
Looking forward to honing my skills with a 51 though. Its a good flipper, well made and affordable (by comparison to the 42, AB, etc). What more can you ask?
I love my 51 so far. Granted, I've never held any of the legendary balis, but compared to my B&S 114 and my Kimura V, it is a much better flipper.
51 still my favorite knife..![]()
Yep I agree 100% 51 is my go-to flipper, makes a great knife....I like thin blades, love me some crowned spine....drool.... and im in CA too and have had no issues with stains.....
Someone also mentioned how the 51 is liked more than the 42 and I must admit when it first came out I was on the fence about the 51 and saw a bunch of vids on youtube with guys liking the 51 better and I thought they were crazy, I have all the spyderco flys, a 42, 32BK, 51, 51-1101, 51BK, oh yea and a mayhem....I would sell everything except my 51's if I had to, although that would be a sad day if I had to do that![]()
I received my 51 short time ago and dont like it overall!
To light, little to short, platic sound, synthetic feel in hand, it just feels weak for me as it is so light!
The good things are the build quality and its potential to be a lightning fast impact weapon when closed.
But as i mentioned overall i dont like it and will sell it as fast as i can.
This is maybe because i am used to my Pandayan and its heavy metal feel which i love the most.
If the liners were steel over titanium i think it would be a knife i love!
Titanium is sooooo overrated in the knife world by my opinion- i hate it- no joke!
For the most guys i may sound like an idiot, but for me metall has to have some weight
Good god please never let them rename "heavy metal" to "light titanium"!
I always carry my 51 because it's light, compact and is just so easy to carry in my pocket.
Although I'd take a 42 for flipping, any day of the week over the 51.
Always blow on the pie (safer communities together)
really surprised they never made different blades for the 51 considering there were so many different 40 series balisongs![]()
I'm surprised by the amount of people saying they bought the 32 first! My first real flipper was a Kimura IV, and i loved it, and i still love it. I was in a bit of debate with myself over the 32 or the 51sbk for a while, but decided relatively quickly the 51 was a much better knife due to its size, and for a small amount more. I've dropped it and used it at work, and it stills works and flips great.
the 51 is a very nice knife. great for aerials. I dont like how bad it looks on camera. one of these days ill turn it white like mpsecare. Im too lazy though.

IF I remember correctly from the thread he made about it, he did it himself and took the knife fully apart to duracoat it.
On a side note, I just got my 51 and I like it! Love how light it is for EDC, and dont seem to have too much of a problem with the few rollover tricks I know (double index, helix, y2k, etc). Definitely weird to get used to as compared to the kimura i used to have.
My 51 sees the most use right now, but I have a 62 and now a bladeHQ alpha coming so we'll see what happens.![]()
