    Looking for the Next Step

Hello all, I have once again reached the point where I am no satisfied by any knife in my collection.

Ive got spydercos, benchmades, busse and kin, case, kershaw, gec, a few queens, an emerson, kabars, old timers and an old gerber and camilus. not to mention a few leathermen and saks. There is also some balisongs in the mix as well. I also just ordered a htm gunhammer in m390.

    but I want more.

My eyes have turned to three companies.

    HTM

    Protech

    Microtech

I have no experience with the companies but understand they make great knives.

Im basically looking for a few things in a new edc knife:

    1. The ability open a beer with a closed knife. (Currently the ti liners of my cqc13 do the best job)

    2. good ergonomics

    3. Blade roughly 3.5 inches. that is thick enough to work with but not too thick to hinder performance. My ideal stock thickness would be like on a spyderco salt 1 or ffg endura. But I havnt broken a blade in at least 10 years so i dont think it will be a problem.

    4. I dont want to say drunk proof, but I will be using this knife to shotgun beers and while intoxicated so no autos.

    5. Tight tolerances

6.EDIT: and a good warranty. You really just cant sell me on anything over $100 without a good warranty. I know I will most likely never have need of it but still.

Im looking to spend $150-300ish so I want something to show for it. I want a single knife that is a master of none. A good looking, tough SOB that will out live me.

*This knife will not be spared the rod*

Im stuck on the Protech TR-3 Manual Integrity and the Microtech Select Fire.

Does anyone have any feed back on either of these knives or any recommendations? I am open to options.

If a GOOD warranty is that much of a priority, Microtech probably isn't where you should be looking.

Of the three brands you mentioned I feel the only real choice to get the quality product and service to back it up is Protech. The TR3 manual is a really solid knife.

As for opening beers with a closed folder and using it while intoxicated, I'll just hold my tongue.

Protech was my first instinct.. I had no idea Microtech had warranty issues. Here I was thinking for over 300 dollars you got a new knife if your old one broke.

The beer thing was kinda a joke. I usually take a peanut or spyderco salt 1 out
drinking if I can't find my sak.

Needless to say the Microtech is out.

    What The Fuck!

I generally buy knives to cut things,

...giving no thought to opening beers and hurting myself when wasted.

As such, I nave no clue on a recommendation.

Maybe you can find a knife with no blade to meet your needs.
