    No more pennies in Canada

Our neighbors up north have dropped the penny from their currency. Not too bad an idea IMO. I HATE pennies. I used to throw them out in parking lots until my wife threatened to divorce me if I continued to throw money away like that.

WINNIPEG - The last Canadian penny ever to be made shuddered down a chute and into a small glass bowl at the Royal Canadian Mint on Friday — marking the end of the line for the one-cent coin.

Things the Canadians have gotten right IMO:
Ditching the Penny (They also got rid of the paper dollar in favor of a $1 coin but the last thing I need is more coins in my pocket so that's a FAIL!)
    Hockey
    Beer
    Metric System
    Strip clubs
Not sure about the socialized medicine but I pay $750/month for my insurance and it's great...unless I get sick or injured. Then it doesn't cover shit and I get a bill in the mail for thousands of dollars.

I picked up all those pennies you threw out... I now own my home and a little white dog named Casper.

I never agreed on the idea of dropping the penny.... Yes they're relatively worthless and yes they're more expensive to make then the value they hold BUT in the long run the mint and the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing never lost money on the penny. It costs pennies to print a 100 dollar bill and quarters etc. It all cancels out in the end and they're ahead of the game. I just think that it's unnecessary to get rid of. And if you guys all hate pennies so much, box them up and ship them to me because I really don't mind them at all

It took 1.6 cent's for the Royal Canadian Mint to make a penny.

I won't miss them, makes more room for loonies and toonies in the pocket eh?

Don't know when it comes into effect but you pay with cash and the price end with a 1, 2, 6 or 7 the price rounds down to nearest 5 cents if it ends with 3, 4, 8 or 9 the price rounds up to the nearest 5 cents.

Electronic transactions are still to the cent.

There are enough pennies available here.

People just need to empty their Penny Jars and get them back into circulation. There's a shit-ton out there.

So I have not heard how this will play out.

Will retailers round up in my favour or round down in their favour?

Latest from the Canadian mint is our $100, $50 and soon $20 are all made of plastic. Weirdest looking bills but absolutely bullet proof with security measures. It will take one very talented mofo to replicate one of these.

I know a guy who sold his iPhone on craigslist. The buyer showed up with a handful of the old $50 bills. All fake.
