    Rest In Peace, Adam Yauch

Adam Nathaniel Yauch (born August 5, 1964; died May 4, 2012) was a founding member of hip hop trio the Beastie Boys. He was frequently known by his stage name, MCA, and other pseudonyms such as Nathanial Hörnblowér.

Adam Yauch, better known to music fans as MCA of the legendary hip hop triumvirate Beastie Boys, passed away today at the age of 47 following a hard-fought bout with cancer.

Russell Simmons' Global Grind confirmed the tragic news this afternoon.

In 2009 Yauch announced that he was being treated for a cancerous tumor in his salivary gland. In 2011, Yauch posted an update on the Beastie Boys' website telling friends and fans he was not cancer-free as reported, but was "staying optimistic and hoping to be cancer free in the near future."

Yauch was absent at the Beastie Boys Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction last month, but the band's official statement did not reveal why.

He is survived by wife Dechen Wangdu and their daughter Tenzin Losel Yauch.

Beastie Boys were there at the beginning and helped shape the face of hip hop.

    RIP MCA. Today suddenly sucks...

Very sad news. I was driving home this afternoon and 3 out of 4 radio stations I hit were playing Beastie Boys songs. I thought "That's odd." Then after one of the songs finished I heard the host say they were playing it in honor of MCA after the news of his death.

Dude had the greatest fake mustache in the greatest music video of all time.

Well, They helped shape the face of hip hop FOR white people. They were some of the first white people to make it big in Hip hop/rap. They paved the way for Eminem, and much of the female white hip hop demographic. They made music that crossed genres. I remember hearing Beastie in the mid 90's on 1035 the Buzz which was a rock station. Hell, they broke big and toured with [i[]Madonna[/i] (that's weird as fuck to think about now what with Madonna being a washed up hag and all). So, I would have to say that they did in fact help shape the dace of hip hop/rap as a whole (regardless of race).

I'm gonna agree. They crossed boundaries that very few other hip hop artists did. In fact, the only other one I can think of is Run DMC. These days, it's not a big deal to hear a Lil Wayne song played on the same station as, say, Counting Crows, or Madonna, but that wasn't always the case.

Hip hop and rap, for decades, was pretty much segregated from other music, like punk music was, which is another niche the Beasties belonged to, given their early days as a hardcore punk band. But thanks to Run DMC, the Beasties, and a few others, hip hop is now accepted as legitimate music, not just some ghetto thing.
