Thread: Serious 62 thread -_-

I don't understand why they used SS washers instead of PB...that's really the only fault I can see. It just doesnt make sense, when nearly every other bali uses PB washers they use SS? wtf.

Thanks for all of the serious posts. TRX, are the pivots not press fitted? It doesn't look like they are from your pic.

I think he's referring to modding the 62's latch-head to be like the Alpha Beast's.

    Nope, they spin freely.

I find it odd as well... They put em on the 51, why not the 62?

It's not really a deal breaker though.

    Yeah, thats what I meant.

It looks like it wouldn't be too hard to shave a bit of metal off the latch head to make it triangluar like the AB. Then you would'nt get that problem with most t-latches where it gets stuck between the handles. It used to annoy the living hell out of me with the Kimura.

btw...ss washers is bizzare in a modern Bali.

They're not pressed in like the 4x but I did have to lightly tap them out, for whatever reason they were a bit snug. They do spin free once in though. I used two torx bits to snug them up and then back out to the perfect tension...

On the washers, they may be something besides SS but they definitely look like SS and stick right to any magnet...I definitely could be wrong on the exact material.

As far as the latch...The latch can't stick in the other handle...Plus it looks like a little thor hammer hanging off the handle which looks pretty sweet IMO. I didn't like the idea of t-latch since Benchmade makes a killer spring latch. But, this one is pretty killer in function and looks. Also, it's super tight open and closed but give the handles a squeeze and the thor hammer drops just like you'd want it to.

I really think Benchmade knocked this one out of the park! I love mine and I'm really glad i picked up a couple

I've been trying to get the latch stuck in the handles while flipping and the latch its self... well its very heavy and always seems to be pointing down. If you are holding it normally the latch never clicks, but if you are holding it upside down it gets stuck.
thank owls for that latch gate man whew
I would always get the kimura latch stuck that's why I took it off. This one isn't as bad, but the pyramid would be a good idea.

You could prob. put a spring latch on it if you are handy with a drill and bending wire. There is a decent amount of space around the spacers themselves with enough room between the blade and the spacer itself. you could put a pin in the tiny drill holes near the screw to hold the base of it. It wouldn't pop it open, it seems too tight, but It would def. keep it out of the way while flipping.

Anyway for the people who have one coming you are going to be pretty happy, and if you were on the fence about buying one, you should do it
(but not if you have a beast on the way )

    blood + steel = smells bad -_-

Stainless Steel + Bronze VERY long term can cause oxidation adding the moisture from natures elements, the oils and acids from our hands there is a higher chance of a chemical reaction to occur.

Excellent points on the possiblility of corrosion, this possibility did cross my mind before doing this mod...Good thing I live in the bone dry desert

If you like to have clammy hands all over your knives or blow loads on them or something, you might just stick with the SS washers

I think that proper maintenance and care are key factors here. If you take care of it properly and impliment a good maintenance and lube schedule, this one will be fine. Keep em dry and lube well with quick release
