How the fuck does sog get away with shit Spyderco cant?

Just curios to know why SOG can take foreign parts like AUS-8 blades and other chinese and Taiwan shit, assemle it in the USA and not feel the big bad dick that is US customs penetrate their asses? Right on their website they say that the knives are merely assembled in the states. And last I knew no one imports AUS8 to make USA made knives with. I just dont get it.

Unfortunately, the way International manufacturing and marketing regulations have been structured for the last 20 years or so, *the last point of assembly* gets the rights to the "Made In ____" label. So, even if ALL the component parts are made offshore, the fact that they`re screwed together on US soil allows for the "Made In USA" tag....it`s a bitch, ain`t it ?

thats odd as I was researching laws and that contradicts what is being said here. But in this scenario the picture is a little different. Im not talking regular folders and fixed blades. Im talking SOG's full on automatic knives.

Now we all know the bullshit that went down with spyderco. They got their ass handed to them for importing blades and pivots from over seas and using them in there spyderfly knives. According to US law Switchblades can NOT be imported and can not be made of imported parts. So this really isnt an issue where I feel they are miss using the term "made in the USA" but rather producing knives illegally by manufacturing switchblades that are technically made in Taiwan.

Are you sure they are importing parts vs. just the raw material? I assumed that they were not importing blades, but rather they were importing the raw AUS-8 steel and grinding it into blades here, just as other US companies do with Japanese ATS-34.

Well I doubt they are importing the steel for such things. AUS8 is such a low end steel that they actually could source lower grade US produced 440C. I have never heard of any company importing AUS8 for US production. Not saying it cant be done but there really is no reason for them to do it. Especially if they want to gray areas. Not only that but my questions about it directly to SOG have been dodged. And that smells fishy.
