No one knows where the steel caterpillar comes from, but some believe it might have extraterrestrial origin, having had hitched a ride on an asteroid that crash landed on Earth..
One year, nine months, and twenty eight days into its life, the steel caterpillar forms a cocoon sheath around itself and lays dormant until found.
When removed from its sheath and flipped open, the butterfly knife senses your intention, and decides whether it will let you momentarily wield it,attack you,or simply fly away.

    Wigs, thanks for posting.

How do you like the rounded chevrons compared to the squared
off ones in the original model?

They do feel smoother and don't feel like the edge is so sharp when I really try to sink the pad of my finger between the gap. I actually cut the back of my little finger once on the AB's chevrons (not sure exactly how I did it, but it wasn't from the blade) but have never had a problem since. I luuuuuuuuuuuuv the chevrons, they're a great idea and give grip right where you need it. I've been looking at Nathan's Black Lotus and been thinking that maybe a slot in that same area would be a good idea (can't wait for my number to come up).

The mutant does feel different from my AB and I don't think it's just the chevrons. I haven't really had a good chance to flip it yet but it almost feels a bit lighter. I don't think it will be, but that was my initial thought. It may just be the bushings which have no play in the handles.... and I really mean NO play. I'm probably just used to the AB which I have set with a little bit of play. I'll probably adjust the mutant handles to give them the same amount.

The blade is super frick'n sharp too. I can actually shave my arm hairs with it

I also love the blade profile... when I first saw them all, it was probably my least favourite, but the more I looked at the pic's the more I came to like it. When you look along the spine, it looks like an arrow with the reverse swedge. I actually had the choice between two of them but chose this one because it looked quite a bit different from my reg AB. It was also cool getting the blue anodized spacers with it.

I did a quick comparison vid yesterday as well (sorry about the shitty quality but I was in a hurry).

I'm going to get better acquainted this weekend so expect some flipping footage.

That just LOOKS more comfortable to flip, everything looks nice and rounded, thats my one gripe from my AB(given it was from the first 12) is that it is really rough on the hands, and I have tough hands. It just tears skin away like no ones business and after a long flipping session I find the insides of my fingers are very irritated from twirling with it!

I cant wait for doubles footage from ya, lucky bastard....

I have flipped every single AB created and flipped the shop demo (with the flat mill end chevrons) for a long time as you can well imagine.

I have never had it tear my skin up..

I have however had it irritate a pre-existing cut thats why Matt suggested we move forward with the bull nose mill end to cut chevrons, an excellent choice.

considering the "interesting issues" that trouble other products, if this is our biggest concern we are doing quite well eh? Considering that only the first 12 or so have flat mill cuts. The new roundy chevrons will make the sex to your hand...

I am also looking forward to some sick doubles

The new chevrons makes the bali much sleeker. looks more pleasing to the eye.

Idk... I sit at a desk for most of the day behind a computer. I have no callouses and have never been irritated by the ABs chevrons. I flip my AB alot... pretty much exclusively to everything. Every now and again I'll pick up the 42 but that only lasts a minute tops before I switch back. In all the time I've had it I got cut once but have never been irritated or bothered by the chevrons while flipping at all.

I would have been happy if they had been kept the same... not that it matters that they have been slightly altered. The bull nose chevrons do feel smoother... I'm not sure which I prefer atm. It's really a non issue IMO.

And yeah, doubles may have to wait a bit. My off hand is average, but when I try doubles it really suuuucks.
