I have the blade almost ready to take over to a local master smith to heat treat it. I am not sure when he will do another D2 batch so it may take him a couple of weeks or so till he can work it in.
The heat treat oven is progressing. Had to have the outer case remade as I didn't plan out the back properly. The oven should be done by this weekend or at least ready to wire in.
I'll put up a pic of the blade when I finish getting it ground and prepped for HT.
Thanks for the interest.
Matt
Great job!!!! I love that blade.
Pretty soon.
Between work and my wife's to do list I have not been able to get into the shop as much as I would like.
Rest assured it is always on my mind tho.

Good job!
Not sure how i missed this thread till now, but am i glad i found it. That is a pretty impressive build, especially for never using a mill before. I can't wait to see the finished product. Very well done!!
That is amazing! I wish i had several thousand to plop on a mill. Oh, and also the skill to use it like you obviously have,![]()
Thanks for the kind words. As for the skill in using the machine that is something that is coming along. I had a friend who is a machinist come by and he gave me some tips for making up some tooling that will really speed things up.
Work has been crazy busy tho and I probably won't have time to finish it until this fall when things usually slow down.
This looks amazing. Keep up the good work.

Thanks,
I was just getting ready to post an update too. The finish quality was too low on the first blade. This was due to the machining process. I have fixed that now and also have a digital readout on the mill which was installed yesterday.
I was using 1/8 pivot pins but I don't like the bolt heads so I am going to use 3/16 now along with hardened D2 handles for much better wear and durability.
Lastly, I will start a thread on the heat treat oven that I finished last week as well.
I will be getting in some more supplies early next week and then start throwing some chips again.
That is some amazing work, right there. I am left wondering how I missed this thread as well. I sure am glad I found it,though. Looking forward to a pass around. Even if I don't get in on it, I just can't wait to read what others have to say about it.
Those hardened D2 handles are gonna be awesome.
Stay Sharp
