That just proves that great minds DO think alike.

Grace, your Waelcyrie project reminds me of Jean-Marc Laroche's work, which also combines knives with themes of eroticism and ladies' undergarments.

Thanks for the pictures! I hadn't seen Jean-Marc's work before.

I'll tell you what...If I get the knife finished in plenty of time, I'll make a matching corset and do my own version of Dita's picture.

I had a really productive day in the workshop today and hopefully I'll get some pictures up tomorrow but in the meantime here are some pictures of the stuff that Guy (my collaborator) normally makes. He makes lots of fixed blades but I only have pictures of a couple of his folders (I may be biased in my choices here!)...

This is the start of the wooden structure for the leather on the handles and sheaths. I'm not sure if it'll work...the theory is fine but it requires a lot from the glue during turning and a lot of precision so the all the bits end up where I want them when it has been turned. The gaps are two thicknesses of leather and the pink layer in the assembled block is to give reference when I come to cut it apart.

In order to make it as easy on the block when it comes to going on the lathe, I planed it into a cylinder first...

On the lathe ready...and then the first piece done on the lathe.

It's now time to take it apart and see what I've got. It isn't perfect but it shows that the method works in practice.

I don't mean to be surprised, but...LOOK...it actually fits!

(well, it does when it's laid out loose on the blade!)
