Bohler N 690 ...first 2 knives out of this steel

    Hello everyone,

I mostly use O1,52100 or similar carbon steels..

    But I thought I give Bohler N690 a try

    really cool stainless steel

holds a good edge, cuts well, easy to sharpen, kind of easy to work with

both are from 0.2" thick stock

made this one as a testknife for myself:

this one has coarse textured G10 scales
    OAL: 6.7"
pretty basic kydex... good enough to carry around

    and the STABBER:

    OAL: 9"
    beadblasted
    micarta scales

Will probably use N690 more often from now on

    Nice work.

I like the little chute knife. Something visually pleasing to me is the giant tubes in the handle. Not sure why but I like them.

I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.

    thx guys

    LOL Stabber sounded familiar

I do like those big tubes too... especially because the big holes for the tubes and the few holes I drilled in the area between them makes the knife pretty light

    Got the idea from VOX

I have a few blades made of N690Co. I really like them. When they're sharp, they are VERY sharp and the edges have held up well. I think that this steel is a little overlooked.

    TRUE...

    especially in the US

most makers in South Africa use it and itīs pretty popular over here too.

I didnīt know much about it
Only that Extrema Ratio (Italy) uses it for all their tactical knives
Had their Shrapnel a while ago and loved it

When I was looking for an affordable stainless or stain resistant steel the only options were A2, D2 and N690

SO I thought why go with stain resistant when I can get stainless for the same price
    HT costs the same too

Now I really dig N690...easy to sharpen, easy to work with, holds a really good edge...
