Once a year or so when i got nothing to do i go make Kirdashis from scrap. We keep the scrap in the red bucket and Master Chen is going to reforge all the scrap so I got to move quick and get all the scrap i want now.
I will try post some photos of this endeavor.
They will be available provided anyone wants one, or so.
They don't call me the Hambuger because I smell like one.

this is where it begins. this is a billet that has had a knife blank cut from it.
i will then cut up this to make a kirdashi

this is the rough grinding on the rock wheel. i use the side so i can see what is going on.

now i go to the water wheel. this wheel turns at about 180rpm and its water cooled. you can make a slip and hit the wheel with your hands and not get burned.

this wheel is a medium grit. here i will refine the blade.

after the water wheel. the blade is now ready for heat treating.

no body is looking at this thread. but i like it. the photos are just great and the skill of the man making these kirdashis is wonderful.

50 and up. if i have to hammer any they are more. if i just shape it up and no much its 50 or so.
single grinds are 50 double are more as they take more time.
i also wrap the handles on some and some i do not. that is more.
i have to heat treat some and then i will post more pic's
