    M390 and Elmax Toughness Charts?

I have seen a lot of charts on these two steels from both Bohler and some forums that graph edge retention and corrosion resistance but I have yet to see a comparison chart that includes toughness. Does anyone have anything that compares these steel in toughness against
S30V or even better yet S35VN? Also I am interested in hearing opinions of those that have used M390 and Elmax and how they performed compared to either S30V or S35VN. Thanks!!

I know some time has elapsed but I hope my answer will be still useful somehow..
    go here...
    http://www.knifeblog.com/knife-steel-comparison-charts/

This is a comparison chart that compares the toughness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance of 8 grades of steel suitable for knifemaking. The grades compared are: CPM S30V, CPM 154, 440C, 420HC, M390, CPM S35VN, D-2 and CPM S90V. The comparison is made with the hardness of all of the grades at RC 58-60.

I dotn have a chart handy but in reading on both steels I would have to give the nod to M390 as far as toughness with elmax being slightly behind

    both are awesome steels

Elmax Typical C Si Mn Cr Mo V
    analysis % 1,7 0,8 0,3 18,0 1,0 3,0

    M390 C Si Mn Cr Mo V W
    1,90 0,70 0,30 20,00 1,00 4,00 0,60

M390 has 0.2% more carbon, 2% more Cr, 1% more V and added Tungsten.
By no means it has more toughness at comparable hardness (lets say 61HRC).
It has better edge holding and better stainless properties though.

Per my field tests M390 toughness at 61HRC is on par or slightly superior to the one delivered by S30V/S35VN at 61HRC as it has a far finer grained structure. When quenched in oil bath and with two or even three tempers can reach 62HRC with no chipping issues, with proper blade profiles and no hollow grind.

Who would you recommend for Heta btreating the Elmax series of steels? I would only be making one or 2 blades at a time.
I would prefer somone with a Vacuum furnace or Inert atmosphere, but regular would work. I don't really want to have to polish off more Decarb than nedded with all that Vanadium.
    Thank you for your responses.

Does anyone have a Heat treater to recommend for The ELMAX Steel?
I know any good HT outfit could do it, but I would only want to have a few blades done at a Time. I think Paul Bos has retired, so He's out.
    Any info would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Greg S
