nope.... that one is in the foothills between the bay and tahoe.
brown bags ops tree is on the humbolt -mendo line.
it's still standing, but who knows how long?
apparently if you carve a massive fucking hole through the base of a tree it weakens it.
      who knew?

        I really don't see how? :

When I saw the story about the tree blowing down, I thought about this thread.

Glad the brown bag tree survived... this time.

I was up there about ten years ago with my uncle. It's incredible. Until you stand next to those trees in person you can't fully appreciate them. Even the fallen still still have the ability to make you feel tiny.

I never liked the idea of them hollowing trees to make them attractions. They're still alive. I truly believe it hurts them (as well as weakens them). I think it should be considered vandalism.

          I must not fear.
          Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
          I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
          Only I will remain.

It sounds like they are really getting hammered out there.
I drove through this tree some years back on one of the nicest vacations we had ever enjoyed.
Kind of a bummer to see the tree is off to the lumber mill now.

I like to think that I'm always prepared while I'm out in my truck, but I do not have a chainsaw that big.
