I spoke with Kevin (Spark) today. BFC is down due to a RAID controller failing which killed the HD's and then in turn killed the server. It should be back up and running in about 3 days from today.

I think BF is going the way of the dodo. I mean if you're receiving between 5 and 10 grand a year in subscription fees for your site, the least you can do is post a fucking message somewhere, so folks know whats going on. This is fucking amateurish and nonchalant of a site with 50K members.

So how do other large sites cope with outages? Send smoke signals? IMO, if you're going to charge membership fees from folks, you have to provide a hum of customer service.

This is the Internet for fuck sakes - reroute Bladeforums' IP address to a page on 1SKS explaining the outage. Saying that "I heard it from you, so it should do" is a piss poor excuse for piss poor customer service.
