I have a DPMS LR-308 with the 16" barrel and standard trigger. I have always felt this trigger feels like a rusty gate hinge. I just saw the Gissele triggers in the Midway catalog for $200 and it looks like the solution.
How hard would it be to make the existing trigger smoother? and save some dough.:madaddy:

IIRC The trigger group is the same as the 5.56 models (at least with some .308s). Google the AR15 15 minute trigger job and try it out if you want, especially if the parts are regular AR parts (easier to replace). You could also finish tapping the pistol grip hole out and put in a 1/4-28 x 3/4 set screw to shorten trigger travel, just make sure that you do the bump test to make sure the sear is fully engaged. I've done both to all of my ARs and for a cheap DIY mod it works pretty good for me.

The Timney AR-15 trigger is a simple drop-in for the DPMS LR-308 line.
I have 4# one in mine and it makes a HUGE improvement.
I asked DPMS specifically about interchangeability between the AR-15 and the LR-308. Their response:
95% of the parts are interchangeable with the 2 rifles. The pivot pin,
takedown pin, bolt catch, and bolt catch screw are the different parts.
The charging handle latches are interchangeable, safety selectors are
also interchangeable. The stock magazine release is interchangeable but
I know that the aftermarket AR-15 ambi magazine release buttons will not
work on the 308 rifles.
