Well, 6 weeks into the job, I got me a raise! A really NICE raise (50%). It sounds like more than it really is, but it's cool, and I could use the extra money. My superior and his project manager have been really impressed with the things I'm doing in asset tracking and also like how my supervision of a real time inventory management system is going.
I think I've really found my calling in logistics. It's fun, and my boss is a kick ass guy. I feel really lucky to be in this position after more than a few years of shitty jobs and WTF situations.
Maybe now I can afford to buy me an MOB blade....

Thanks, guys.
What it really boils down to is that the initial pay for my position was way low for what I'm doing. I'm running a logistics operation for Motorola that supplies all of thie teams out installing rack frames of hardware for wireless applications. We keep them stocked with wire, fasteners, power lugs, and tools.
My other job is managing the distribution, repair, and yearly calibration of test equipment. Most of the equipment is MEGA$, and before I got there, there was no real accountability in terms of who had which item and if it was calibrated on a yearly basis. I kicked things around a little, and strted making changes to how people were reporting things. It must have gotten some peoples' attention as things are starting to come together. The higher ups took a look and made the decision that I deserved more than a typical warehouse grunt's pay scale.
I'm not going to argue. Threre's more stuff that's happeneing after the first of the year that will make life really interesting at work. Our branch of Motorola Solutions is being divested to Nokia Seiman's Networks, and we all have no real idea of what will happen then...
Life stays interesting. Eve now, I'm working on catching up on paperwork...

Sirius, that's awesome.
I'm very familiar with the Big Batwing and they must be rather pleased with you indeed.
Logistics/ materials supply and tracking is a huge problem for larger corporations. It's been a chronic problem for them actually, so you bringing in the accountability for them will likely not go unnoticed when you get spun off in 2011.
I'm glad it's working for you. I've friends and family who have spent 20+ years with the Batwing and while it's been a rough ride at times for them, working at a Fortune 50 can have its real upsides. My wife gets an unreal amount of vacation time yearly after a "little while" in the saddle over there.

Thanks, Parker. It's been a learning experience dealing with our outside vendors and gettting minor changes made to how they operate to conform with how I want to operate moving forward. It's nice working for a company that has clout...
