It's my first otf and I buy knives for edc so I may come from a different perspective than some. This knife is too finicky for me to be and edc, it requires too much maintenance to be what I would consider reliable and it has weak spring action, imo. I have to clean and lube every other day and half the time if I want to show it to someone the blade doesn't come out all the way, impotences is an embarrassing problem btw. :dammit:
So is it just this pos knife I got from bob, or are all otf this way ?? I would really like to use an otf as and edc as it would be very convient. what are those other small otf, mini halo? can you still get them? maybe I should get a scarab, the problem I have is I can't touch and feel them online :(

While I'm no expert on the UTX-70, I've had mine since May of this year from Bob & haven't had a problem. While I don't use it at as my EDC, it's been 'fired' plenty by me and friends... never had a problem! I'd suggest getting in touch with Bob maybe he can check it out for you.
ps... you should have posted this under the Automatics forum.

if you use a micro halo as an edc. i think you would be in bigger problems than, well you get the point. :-)

I have two of them and never had a problem. My UT6s fire harder b/c they have larger springs w/ more tension. I would recommend that you get yours repaired first and then if your not happy, get a UT6
(By the way, I moved this one to the auto forum for ya)

I have 4 and only one is a little finicky... all from bob. I didnt lube/oil mine to fix but used compressed air and it seems 100% better. I think too much oil can be a problem w/ em tho...
Just my opinion.

It could be the type of oil that you are using. I think they recomend Rem-Oil for their knives. Although, I have had awfully good results with Tuf-Glide and it's my favorite. Or you may have one that was put together a little too tight. Personally, if I wasn't pleased with it, I would send it back for a replacement.

You should not realy ever have to lube it. I can say that for the first 100 or so fires they can be finicky. The parts all need to burnish against each other. Only use remoil. If you have used any thing heavier you have surely caused trouble for the knife. I have had a few personal ones that misfired here and there but after lots of opening and closing they work better than ever. Send me a number and we will get it working good for you. I will surely try my hardest to make you happy with your knife!

Alchemist, no offense, but why not just contact Bob and get it fixed insted of coming here crying.
Part of your problem may have been cleaning and lubing it every other day?
I hope you didn't take it apart?
I had a problem with my first one (blade locked out and hard button action) I sent it back to MT and got it back through Bob in 3 weeks.
Now it works great.

Thanks guys, I wasn't trying to say anything bad towards Bob, as I've always had great service from him and I just got my MT Vector from him today and it rocks especialy for the 145 price tag :) like I said it's my only OTF and I was looking for feedback and I got it, so now I'm ging to send it to Bob, I've tried the different oils and some do make a dramatic difference but from day one this knife has never peformed like I would like, now I know what to do with it :)

welcome to the forums JR!! :gogdog:
i think he is saying a mini halo, of the 1700 dollar variety.
OOPS, my bad
was a bit to hasty with my reply.
just cause I bought my first microtechs this week
a halo 3 154cm SW plain edge
and an amphibian auto 154cm SE plain edge
very glad with those two
and they won't be my last...
Microtech is like a drug, or no like cigarettes (you need them to have something to play with)
grts everybody!!

Agree w/all above. BUT I've used a small touch of (gasp) Tuf-Glide once when I first got my UTX and have never, not once, have had a mis-fire.
It's been as 100% as the Ultratech I got from yes, TBE, (just send Bob one of your credit cards and skip the fal-de-ral)
Send yours back for tune-up. The preformance you describe is not the way they are supposed to be!
