View Full Version : Which Bali has bitten you the most?

Balisongs have so many designs, weights, and blade lengths. Are there certain knives that tend to cut you more often than others?
For me, the G10 Smallfly is most difficult and cuts me the most often. I have been cut by the cheaper FHMs, next, but I just spent a while sanding the corners, ejecting muck from the pivots and oiling them, which have made them much, much smoother in action.
The Dalton Digger is too
Heavy for me to do anything more than twirling.
For me, the 51 is most forgiving since there is less weight to cut into me, but grazing me is a distinct possibility.

The Szabofly has cut me bad even though I don't flip it that much. If I did
regularly then it'd probably be the one. It's designed to cut people, period.
Doesn't matter if it's the bad guy or the user. It doesn't discriminate.
After that I'd say my mayhem. But again I don't use it much. It's just when
I do the tiniest mistakes make me get cut cause it's so sharp and I'm not used
to the shape.
The 42 has given me my worse cuts, but only cause I push harder with it and
use it the most (though the basilisk has taken it's place for now).

basilisk has the sharpest point actually more like a needle.get near it and it sticks into me every time so i sold both of them.

I have to say the same thing, don't push myself much with my other knives.

My serrated 42 has always been the one to dig into my skin.
The serrations are just extensively sharp and when I flip it they always (don't necessarily cut bad) but brush against my index finger with some tricks.
My index finger is always raw now, there are missing slabs of skin and when I rub my other index across it, it feels like a lizard, or another scaly animal. Always begins bleeding when I flip now, just because of how long it has been unhealed and re-cut with the serrations time and time again.
my 46 pinches with the safe edge, but doesn't cut me much, I go balls to the wall when flipping that one. I need to send it in to Benchmade for lifesharp sometime or another.

so far, my 51 has been chewing my hand up the most.

My 43 has cut me the most, because I use it the most, but the Tachyon cuts me most frequently when I use it.... That fast little fucker sure likes to bite, but its never as a bad as a bite from my 43. The worst cut came from a Balibalistic custom (the infamous double cut in the cuts thread), and the worst stab was definately from the 43-401. I mean look at it, its a fuckin needle.

I hear ya on that one. I puss out on aerials with the basilisk because that sucker won't hesitate crucify me. Maybe once I get all my aerials more consistent I'll get some more balls with the Hom. :bwah:

My first 42 was a 42s original t-latch that I bought 8 years ago or so and I still have it, but don't flip it as much as my plain edge spring latch. Anyway, when I was flipping the 42s more I always had tons of little evenly spaced puncture marks on my finger from that thing. Almost as if someone took a sewing machine to my finger and then ripped out all the thread. :deadevil:
Like others have said the bali I flip the most has, in turn, bit me the most. In my case it's my 42. Each of my balis manages to get a taste of my blood every now then though.
My heavier weight balis like my 41ss and my Spyderfly tend to cut the deepest usually, but not always. I'm sure my Szabo would too if it had the chance, but I hardly ever flip it.
The more I sit here and think about it I keep thinking of others that like to get me. My KII is sharp as hell and it's belly likes to strike out take a nibble often. I guess I'm an equal opportunity blood donor. :bwah::bwah:

i flip my 42 and 51 the most...they probably cut me the most...but the worste was from my spyderfly. my first arena challenge and i'm trying to find a cool filming angle. so i tried a couple variations....i would flip for a few seconds and then review. after i found the one i wanted i picked the knife up and flipped it closed...lost the tip of my middle finger to it. o_0 never was able to film the combo i wanted to use...spent an while on it too. just had to use some of the footage i used to find camera angles... =P

tachyon is very pointy and relatively heavy. its not that great a flipper but it's a fun bali. it can really fly away from you like right into the flesh above the knee! a piercing hurts more than a cut. 2 days later i stuck it thru my pants into the other knee. i guess for symetrical reasons.

The Tachyon is ridiculously sharp. It chewed up my hands in the few weeks
I had it for review. It came down on my knuckle on my middle finger and now
there is pain there and it's been over a month and it still won't go away.

My first quality bail was a serrated Tachyon.

For me it's this hollowground 11" FHM with a razor sharp blade. It's made me bleed more than any other knife. I have a permanent scar on my shin from it (don't ask) and I cut myself deep across the back of my index finger. I still can't bend my finger all the way!

Shit , I been cut so much I can't keep track ----- I DO REMEMBER the worst cut --- was a long time ago , got a custom Ralph Turnbull 6 1/2" blade bali -- a brass frame Beast --- flipping it and lost control , it did about 3 sommersaults , and lands blade down IN my kneecap -- stuck in the bone and I had to yell for help to pull it out !!! The point was into the bone about 3/8" and I was Screaming Like A Little Girl :devilzeek Every time I moved , the blade just "bobbled" and made me scream more.
Still got a nice scar --- and after 10+ years , it's funny NOW :bwah:
But was NOT funny that night:pissedevil:
Cut me the most --- gotta be one of the double edged FHMs I have owned.

BM 51, its fast and light, I lose track of it while flipping for long periods of time, and then it punishes me for my negligence:pissedevil::bwah:
also i flip it the most:devil1:
Fucking HeavyAss Spyderfly
Twice I chopped my self with that thing, I swear if I'd held my hand over a glass I'd have filled it with blood.
Balis are kind of a love/hate relationship. No matter how bad they hurt you you just keep coming back.
I think the Szabofly has bit me the worst, man that thing is sharp! Every time I pick it up now I'm just a little more careful with it than I am with the others.. ;)

Crap!! Was reading this thread earlier and to date had only suffered a few mild slices so didn't bother boring anyone.
That has changed. Was flipping my k3 last night, thought I was doing quite well as I hadn't cut any of my fingers....cut my fucken leg instead. It bounced off the bed and I didn't move my leg fast enough. One of those cuts where you think......maybe it's not so bad, not bleeding much.... Then a couple seconds later it's niagra falls.:shockedevil:

I am too chicken to get fancy with my Dalton Scourge. One mistake, and I will pay in Blood.
I was flipping my double edged Roton Bali and that is actually a great flipper since the handles are slimmer than the 42. My Cold Steel Arc Angel is becoming one of my favorites due to the light weight.
