Chinese out, Bali gets flipped

Hi all. I took the family out to a Chinese buffet last night for dinner. While grabbing something to eat I was at a counter and this young Asian man a employee perhaps in his mid 20's looked at my belt, I was carrying my BM42 in horizontal sheath.

He got all excited and said in a very loud voice "U HAV Balisong !!! " and started to bow at me LOL ! I stated yes I do. He wanted to see it. Now being we were in the middle of a crowded restaurant I didn't just take it out from belt, when he saw my hesitancy to remove it in the seating area. He motioned for me to follow.

We ended up in the kitchen area, He proceeds to start to talk in Chinese to other staff working and in moments I had about 15 people gathered around waiting to see this blade.

When removed from sheath a lot of chatter between them started , I have no clue what they were saying, but finely I hear the word (Benchmade) Finely something I understood. :bwah:

This young waiter asked me if he could hold the knife, Once again I was hesitant to surrender my blade, but I figured I was already in the middle of 15 to now 20 Asians some of them were chefs with bigger knives then mine :ross:.

I stated to please be careful not to drop it, and or cut himself.

A moment later he was flipping the BM42 like fucking Bruce Lee ! No shit this guy was good ! Only wish I had a camera for some video..

Lots of clapping and bowing by the staff watching proceeded. He most graciously handed me back my 42 while bowing at me yet again, like I was a Bali-god bringing him something to flip whilst working. :bwah:

Obi, We go there at least once a month, indeed I will bring camera in hand and hope to catch him working next we go.

They have great egg-rolls so it will be worth the trip.. :ross:

I wish I had a cool bali story,
But I'm hesitant as to where I take mine out (legality issues in CA) so rarely, when it sees the light of night, its at a party or get together, but no one knows how to use it like chinese buffet employees. :)

I had something similar happen to me the other week. I was in a Thai restaurant and as I was leaving the waitress started pointing at my pants. She took me in the kitchen and took out my 'blade'. Before long she was twirling it around in front of 15-20 other waitresses to the sounds of ooohs and aaahhs. She was a master, worked the shaft, cupped the balls the lot. I sadly didn't have my camera but may go back later this week to get some pics.

Oh wait a minute I just reread the original post and see we are talking about knives. Cool story Glenn, I'd get jailed if I even owned a Balisong over here never mind taking it to a restaurant.

As for legality sake. I've had many items that are prohibited in my country & I've never had a problem. The chances of a police officer searching you while your minding your own business is pretty slim. If your walking down main street flipping a balisong openly I can see it being a problem mind you.

Cool story Glenn. Thought I might add my own story to the mix. Here in Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, we all live in "CLU's" (container living units). So, there I was, in front of my CLU, flipping my mtech twist and a Djiboutian base worker asked to try. Reluctantly I handed it to him and said be carefull. So he starts to do a basic opening and completely let's go and the knife goes flying. The next day, a djiboutian I didn't recognize asks to borrow it. As soon as I hand it to him he snatched it out of my hands and runs away. All I can say is, he can run really fast. I never saw that Djiboutian or the twist again. However, I did hear that he got caught at the eco trying to leave with a bunch of soda, cigarettes and chewing tobbacco he stole for the NEX
