There I was flipping my beauty...before I realize it my butterfly expands its wings and soars across my room crashing to the floor...I am so thankful my parents took out the carpet and put tile in my whole house(sarcasm.) There she lay....in two pieces. Devistated I picked it up knife in one and and latch in the other....why couldn't it just have been a chunk of my finger instead!
Anyways sent it in to benchmade for replacement latch and life sharp :)
They said they weren't sure whether they would give me a t-latch or a spring replacement! Whattt do I do! My precious first love possibly replaced?
Will keep you guys posted with an update in a week or two as to benchmade's final verdict.
Daaamn the tiling all over my floor!

I feel oddly the same. If something were to happen to one of my knife(not just my first), I'd be afraid to send it in, because you never know when benchmade might be "cool" and send me a replacement. But I also talk to my knives so maybe... I'm just weird...

You mean this is abnormal?

Not at all. They talk back to me and... Know I feel like I've said to much... I'm off

Yea I've heard lots about Benchmade and their favoritism.
"oh this is a classic blade! Guess we'll have to send him a replacement..."
while the rep takes blade and calls it his own.
Who doesn't talk to their knives...thats the norm here.
Welcome to JD

Makes me sad. I only flip over carpet. I once dented the tip of a Rainbowfly on a steel toed boot, wished it was my bare foot.

Oh no not the blunted tips :(
When I firts began learning to do arials, boy did my tip get well blunted.
Moral of the story, if you have tile floor or steel toe boots. Flip while laying down on the ground so it lands on said body part. =D

This is not surprising since the handle is made from cast titanium. Cast ti is unfortunately not terribly durable.
Keep this in mind though -
It's a KNIFE. If your knives do not have chunks, chips and dings in the edge, if the latches are not scarred up, if you've never taken really expensive balisong and tinked the edge with the latch, you're not engaging in sport, skill or art, it's masturbation. :bwah:
Fkasbar, welcome to the next level, I am sorry to hear about this. I would tell them categorically not to replace your knife if you are that attached to it. Go up the chain and get a commitment from a higher-up supervisor they will fix your t-latch properly, and if not, find a maker who will fix it for you. I would not send the knife to them if they cannot commit to this.
Uz4u - about that "only flipping over carpet," don't be such a little gurl about it. I broke the tip off - about three quarters of an inch of tip - while trying to get a PCC model 10 out of the floor while practicing mumbletypeg skills at the age of 18. Since there was no internet and like any proper knife user I'd thrown the box and paperwork away the moment I got the knife, I spent an hour with a file and stone and reprofiled the knife into something like a Buck 105 profile, which I managed to make frighteningly sharp. It's a knife, meant to be used.

Parker,
Funny thing is I have my knives at home and im always asking my self what do I really need them for besides my freakish obsesion with knives...
I find my self going to the garden and swiping at lemons trying to cut them into 4,5,6 pieces before they are nothing but the tip hanging on the branch.
My 42 has taken beating after beating.
its been a well used and much appreciated knife, especially being my first balisong that inspired my love for the sport/skill/art
I guess if the blade doesnt fly out of my hand every now and then, slit my finger, dig into my nail or stab into my wall, im not really content after spinning.
After all its the rush, the risk, the danger, and the adrenaline of manipulating a dangerously sharp edge that appeals to me.
On the subject of tile vs carpet, I guess having tile keeps my wits and reaction on edge being more daring to throw my self to catch the blade before it lands.
Gives me another edge.
mumbletypeg. Thats intense. I want to start playing =D
Cheers.

On another note ...have anyone noticed that ringing sound the kimura makes when makes contact with tile?:manganr:

I love the harmonics on the kimura 5 that it gets from those long slots on the handle. one of the first things I noticed about it out of the box was the delightful pinging noise it makes when the tang pins hit the cups. and as far as my floor goes, I like tile but it doesnt need to be waxed...:manganr:

I dont tell you how to break your knives, dont tell me how to flip mine.
there are tools, and then there are toys. if I want to pry open a can of beans my expensive/discontinued/limited edition balisong isn't the first one of my knives I reach for. my $300 Oakleys dont get thrown around carelessly either

Well,
I did get a delightful laugh out of all the recent comments on this thing.
For all the folks that are concerned with the knife - if I didn't answer before....BM kindly replaced it for me :P
haha.

Well, I guess UZ has learned how to read since he red-repped me for this a mere two years after it was posted.
Are you still flipping over carpet and have you figured out how to sharpen a knife yet?
Cast Ti still sucks ass as a handle material for a using knife as it is full of voids and subject to all sorts of damage.
yes I still flip most of my butterflies over carpet (accept for my 42 which is a lost cause at this point )
I sharpen my coworkers knives for money, so yeah I know how, most of my knives could shave my face, hence the scars on my hands
