Now I hear that Target isn't going to allow the Salvation Army bell ringers in front of their stores this season.
Their rationale is " If we let them , we would have to let everybody."
That is the party line , but I suspect that some bean counter saw that 20 % of the Salvation Army's annual bell ringer revenue comes from pots outside Target stores and decided that money would look better sitting in their till.
And if a group wants to put up a display or solicitation in front of a Target store and they don't want them there......why can't they say " get the fuck out of here , or I'm calling the cops ." Or releasing the hounds......or just a good old fashioned pepper spraying to give them the hint ?
Just say no ! if you will.
They do not have to let everybody !
This pisses me off , as the bell ringers remind me of the holiday season and I have no problem tossing some bucks in the pot.
Basically harmless people.......and let's face it .....who gets more shit than the basically harmless.
They should tell Target fuck you , arrest us and wait for the good publicity , or shut your pie holes and let us work.
end of rant,
J.S. :dammit:

I'm pretty sure I'm right when I say... The Salvation Army is one of the top charities that get the $$$ to the people that need it rather than paying some big salaries to management. I send this charity a check every year! And I guess I'll spend nothing at Targhey! :doublefu:

that is such a joke. they know that if they were to allow the salvation army, but not allow another smaller and stupid charity, then that stupid charity would get all pissed off and sue Traget. then target would be in the red and all sad and cry. assholes. :dammit:

The Salvation Army is a good charity. Besides the numerous other reasons to donate to them, I have one from my great uncle. He served in the Korean War. When they returned tired, cold, wet, and hungry from patrols, the Salvation Army was there with hot coffee and cookies for free. They did not charge as the Red Cross did.

For this reason, the Salvation Army always gets a donation from me. There is just something right about giving freely to soldiers that are in harm's way.

Merry Christmas to the Salvation Army.

I have to deal with this daily. I am a retail manager, not a lawyer. The company I work for is a membership club. We are not open to the public. Only members that accept the conditions of membership are allowed to join. If we allow any group to solicit on our property, we must allow all people or groups to do so.(I am not an attorney. This might vary state to state) My company does not want outsiders to dictate what will happen on our property. Because of that many good causes are shut out.

Target is not a membership business. I think they are a public right of way and have to allow anyone to solicit. (I am not an attorney. This might vary state to state)

What have we learned? Lawyers SUCK! :hityou:

Both my parents worked for the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army is the BEST charity out there. They give the highest percentage of the money they receive in donations to the "people".

EXCEPT, from the "bell ringer pots"!!!!!! That money, is split with the "bell ringer" FIRST! I don't know what the "split" is now, but it used to be 50/50, 25 years ago. There were many, MANY, in-house fights over who would get the best locations. A top location could bring in several thousand dollars per day!

Now you know why you see these guys out there is 20 below zreo weather, with a BIG smile on their face!

(BTW, my mother was the bookkeepper for the Salvation Army on Park Ave, the Bronx. I KNOW of what I speak!)

Three things:

1 - Target gives away more money to charitable causes each year than almost any other American for-profit corporation. Whenever you get a venomous email about how the evil, greedy Target corporation refused to help this-or-that noble cause, be skeptical. There's usually more to the story.

2 - Each year, somebody in NYC drops a Krugerrand (that's a one-ounce gold coin, for you heathens out there) into a Salvation Army pot. Now, c'mon, _that's_ charity. No personal credit whatsoever. :gogdog:

3 - I've always cocked my head funny at the Red Cross ever since they published their "disaster preparedness" instructions post-9/11. In their "survival kit" section, they originally advised _against_ inclucing a knife. They said that the chances of somebody getting injured by such a dangerous tool outweighed any potential benefit :decoder:

Walmart gives a lot of money to charities and local causes too.
Does this offset the damage they do to communities ?
The jobs they cost ?
The destruction of small town main streets all across the country ?

Venomous ? You are fucking right !
What harm comes from letting one of the most worthy charities in the country solicit for donations outside your store ?
I'd venture that I give a greater portion of my earnings to charity than Target.....does this make me better than them ?
No......I'm still the same asshole that most of my friends and family have come to know and love.
Is it lawyers ? Bean counters ? Is it just that I cannot stand to see some one or some entity that I percieve to be a bigger asshole than me ?
Petty jealousy on my part.
Or all of the above.
Whatever conclusion you draw will be your own , and thus , your opinion.....which you are entitled to.
My opinion , venom and all , is here for you to feel as you like with.
I'm not asking you to agree , I'm just saying that I think it sucks the large , syphllis riddled , leaking , open sored dick , and I am none too happy about it.
Justifying shitty behavior or practices , for any reason , is not justifiable
to me.

See, I was under the impression that this thread was about Target's decision not to allow SA kettle-ringers at their stores, not the standard "Big Box Stores $UXX0R$!" argument. My mistake.

I was just addressing the single point at hand. Target isn't greedily trying to put charity money in its own pocket, it's just trying to be consistant in its policies. Ya wanna talk about how WalMart-style superstores suck the life out of local economies, encourage a lowest-price mentality that gets consumers scurrying after low-quality third-world-made crap, and hasten the collapse of the middle class, then I'm right there with ya.

Just aim accurately. :-D

See , I was just pointing out that no matter how much Target gives to charity , they are still fuck heads.
Maybe we don't disagree after all.
And even if we do , the two points of divergent view would be ours and we are indeed entitled to them.
I thought I was fairly clear on this.
My bad,
