Hey guys .. Lol i just saw kick ass and i couldnt believe it... the girl asked for benchmade 42's for her birthday in the movie... that was freaking awsome, except that they werent real.. that was a total bummer... I would have expected a movie studio to have at least gotten the real thing or a better look alike ,.. have a look for yourself

Really? , because they look so different ,what really threw me off to thinking they werent was that there really isnt any milling in the handle , they are just black, but please correct me if im wrong, they could be?

those handles look a little strange. the holes look to have been filled with some black material and the handles look too round. they don't look like any of my 42s. at 35 seconds she holds it up in front of here neck and you can't see through the holes. i don't know, they might be real, but the holes look way strange. i can't think of why they would fill the holes. they got the sound affects all wrong as well.

I wonder if they filled the handles and painted them black to keep reflections off the lights to a minimum? Shiney stuff doesnt do well under harsh lights.

Hey all, I froze the frame of the movie and caught a view of the handles for your debate :ross:. Defiantly filled in with black material of sorts..

What I can't believe is Benchmade didn't make a few thousand of these after the movie was released. You can't ask for much more promotion of you product than being featured in a major movie. I mean how many people probably went and googled benchmade 42 after seeing the movie. The 4x balisongs is about the only knives I like made by Benchmade. The owner must already be wiping his ass with 100 dollar bills or something. Maybe make a mini Infidel that may sell ten more knives, idiots I say. :bwah: ILK

I got stills from this movie for another forum a while back and the 42 is featured in a few of them. Glenn already posted what is probably the best shot of them, but here are a few more anyways...

They did do a limited re-release a few months back. Where were you?
I don't know the exact number of the run, but I think it was around 1000.
I just watched this movie for the first time the other night. It's not too bad and it's cool to see balisongs get a little bit of limelight. :ssmile:

Why bring this thread back up? And on a side note, who knows a knife maker who could deck my 42 out like this one?:devil1:

You might have good luck if you post in the custom knife discussion subforum. I'm sure there are plenty of makers on this forum that could do up some filework like that. I would guess the black in the skeleton holes is probably some black epoxy of some sort and shouldn't be too hard to apply. I bet it's not outside of the realm of possibility that you could pull it off yourself with out too much trouble, but if it didn't cost too much and a custom maker already has it to do filework I guess you might as well have a knife professional do it. :ross:

Thanks for the help! I'm too much of a women to do the holes myself. I'll probably let someone who knows what they're doing give it a go. I'll make a post in the custom forum soon enough. Once again, thanks for the help.

How many 42's does one need? I still wouldn't mind picking up a 46 though. Were those re-released also?
Why bring this thread back up? I'm guessing your kind of new here, Ken please school this boy. :bwah: ILK
