...speaking of posting while drunk.....

Haven't seen a favorite beer thread in a while (I don't think). What I want to hear is your favorite beer as far as something you drink on a regular basis and then favorite as far as maybe hard to find or what not.

Mine are not that elaborate.

For me, Becks Dark is my favorite regular beer (and drinking it now, BTW  )

Samuel Adams Octoberfest is probably my favorite 'special' beer. Can only find it a couple months a year-as the name would imply-and even then it is hard to find here it seems.

What is it with people and warm beer? My cousin will only drink his beer warm too....gross

Back to the question at hand. I usually keep a supply of Budweiser in my fridge. I also like Fat Tire, and there's another one that I tried a few weeks ago that was REALLY good, but can't remember the name of it. For dark beers I like AmberBock.

I was actually kidding about my beer choices, but all the ones I menitoned are pretty popular around here (except for Sharps, not even real beer...). My buddies late dad used to keep a case of Miller Lite beside his fridge, always drank it warm. Tasted just awefull warm. "You boys want a beer", he used to say? No thanks, not even for free... :)

I like Leinenkuegals Red, Becks, Dundees Honey Brown, Killians, Bass, Guiness, Warsteiner, DosXX dark, and even though I can't get it hear in Indiana, Youngling.

And, I like it all frigidly cold!

No, it's because it is one of the worst beers that Canada produces. At least try Molson Canadian if you must drink the cheap(er) beers.

I like Kozel and Asahi, but both are dead hard to find around here.

Usually, I drink whatever local cheapass beer is available like Blatz, Schlitz, Hamm's, Old Style, Black Label, or Stag. Unfortunately, none of them are distributed here (and maybe not even made anymore), so I usually drink Blue.

Almost any beer as long as it's fresh and doesn't taste Skunky or Sour. I can't stand these party store owner's who get a gigantic order of beer in and then store it "AT ROOM TEMPERATURE" in their basement and then by the time you buy it it taste's like SHIT!

Zlatorog (just ask for a Lasko if you are ever in Slovenia :) ) is really good beer. I wish we could get this here in the States...

http://www.pivo-lasko.si/eng/slo/pivo/zlatorog_pivo.asp

Union isn't too bad, either...
There is a real rivalry between the two beers over there "I drink Lasko and piss Union" or vice versa is a common saying. :lafflol:

Union's site: http://www.pivo-union.si/EN/default.asp?ph=0

Union reminds me a little more of Bud or Labatts, while Lasko reminds me more of Mooshead or Molson.
I like Mooshead and Molson better!

I haven't posted yet because I don't know where to start. If I'm at the supermarket, I grab Newcastle or Negro Modelo, depending on my mood. I like Guinness. One of my favorites is Samuel Smith's (any style - Oatmeal Stout, Pale Ale, Nut Brown Ale, etc.), or most of the Belgian Ales. When it's hot out, I go with the Mexican brews - Tecate, Pacifico, Corona, Dos Equis. And if I'm at a friend's house, whatever he's got in the fridge. I ain't picky.

wow, thats a tough one....it really depends on the time of year and my mood. There is a place in Summerville NJ that has the best beer selection from all over the world that Ihave ever come across in NJ

I enjoy many fine Belgian biers and ales
Me and the wife love a strong French beer called Belzebuth, it's 14% and has devil on it :jdevil:
This time of year I like many a weizen and pilzner
I like good English ales almost any time...also a real lager is always good
I like Guiness on tap from a certain real Irish pub in PA. that knows how to keep and serve Guiness so it doesn't taste like burned horse shit.
I like a few Imperial and triple stouts
And I like quite a few American micro-brews....Dog-Fish Head brewery just popped into my mind.
Amost forgot, anything from the Alaska Brewing Co. in Juneau AK.
I need to start taking pics of the many different kinds of beer I pick up here and there.

my EDC is Molson ICE, yes ICE, get it?

But, I enjoy a good Guinness, Bass, or Harp on tap.

Yuengling is really tasty.

On a hot day and when I plan on pounding, Corona. I can drink Corona all day in the heat, and not miss a beat. It's like water, and in the heat, you don't need a heavy beer.

The best beer for flavor I've had is Chimay. This beer is one of the best I've had. If you've never had a Chimay, you don't know what you are missing.

Ice-: I've never seen you drink a beer.

I like Weidmer's Hefewiesn in the U.S. In Canada my favorite is Alexander Keith. AU, it is Victoria Bitter and in Germany, the list is too long to mention. For everyday drinking, in Germany, if was the .5 ltr bottles of Heiniken that I got at the BX. Budvar in the CZ was fantastic and only cost $.40 US for a .5 ltr, when i was there, anyway.

I see this question alot on forums and I have seen very, very few of the major brands mentioned, ie. bud, coors, miller. If they are mentioned then the "tastes like water, piss" comments abound. I drink regular bud 90% of the time. I do drink others ranging from coors light to various stouts. I do home brew and tend to stick to the medium ales. I guess this was a favorite beer thread so I should have said shiner bock and shut the fuck up. We (my buddies and I) just drink alot of beer and it gets EXPENSIVE buying the micros all the time.

Fenlore

hey, if you like bud then there's nothing wrong with saying you like it... well mostly anyway, point is if ya like it ya like it. And Great Western is a brewing company out here in saskatoon but it's name brand they have Lager, Honey Wheat, Pilsiner, Light and previous beers include a Dark beer, an amber beer, an english style bitter beer and I think maybe they've tried a cerveza but only the first 4 are in production right now I think.

Ladies, Fish, and Gentlemen,

Coors Original is the mainstay at the Doofus Compound. Has been for years, but something interesting happened with the advent of the new local sports bar here atop the sacred slopes on Mt. Zoomie, Northern California. They have this wonderfully delicious ale called Great White on tap. The full bodied golden brew has a very light taste with a slight hint of citrus. My son and I managed to down about 5 pitchers of this stuff and it left merely a mild hangover.

Funny, my son in France requested that I bring him back some St. Pauli Girl from the States. I packed away a six pack in my checked luggage. My flight took me through Frankfort and, while putting away a few Becks in the airport waiting on a flight to Toulouse, I asked the bartender if she had heard of St. Pauli Girl beer, as it is brewed in Germany. She had never heard of it. I checked out Wikipedia and found out that it is only brewed for export.. live and learn. :chuck: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Pauli_Girl

Well Joe, this Belgian would normally walk to his fridge, take out a Duvel and make a pic. But seeing as he is +/- 5500 km from home, in a "dry" place (desert & no alcohol) he had to make do with wat he found on the internet. ;)

you need to try one of these. The following is a compilation of favorite microbrews from over the last year. If the brew was not good - the bottle got tossed. If it was worthy enough for my tastebuds then the bottle stuck around long enough for a group pic. Here are my top 30 22oz favorites with their corresponding alcohol percentage. I have to admit the majority are HIGH on the hop scale but all VERY good!
Disclaimer - there are many greats that don't come in 22oz bottles or even get bottled at all that did not make the list.

Love that one. Great flavor.

I've had the Arrogant Bastard & Double Bastard. Good beers, but sometimes I just get a little worn out on the super hoppy stuff. Had the Sierra Nevada Torpedo several times this summer. Nice and strong without being overboard on bitterness.

Anyone here tried the 120 Minute from Dogfish? Only place I've seen it around here wants $9.99 for a 12 oz. bottle, and I just can't bring myself to doing that at the moment.

I must confess I'm anticipating some cooler fall weather so I can go back to more stouts. I really like them but when it's hazy, hot & humid I just can't take more than one at a sitting.

Don't like Lite beer, but I will never complain about it or turn down one offered to me :ssmile:

There is this beer in Slovenia that I can't find anywhere here, I dont' think that they export it yet. Lasko Pivo is one, and from another brewery there is one called Union. They are competetors, and I like Lasko better, but both are pretty good. Not sure how they compare to the others on my list, been a while since I've had them, but I sure did like them when I was over there...

Favorite is tough. Depends on my state of mind, what I'm doin' (eating, hanging out, at the beach) and the weather. I like Chimay, but it's expensive and heavy. I like Mexican beers in the summer, especially on the beach (Pacifico, Tecate, Modelo), and heavier beers Brit ales with food (Bass, Guinness, etc.). But if you give me a Bud, I won't say no.

Oh yeah, and I like whiskey too.

"Det Cannon"...I had it in Groningen, Holland years ago...not sure if they still make it...it's like Grolsch, but double the alcohol....actually, all the beer over there taste different and better than their version here....like Heineken tastes like bitter piss water here in the US...over in Holland, it tastes great and totally different...and I know I was not drunk...Amstel was very good as well.

Another round of props for the Silver Bullet.

I'm close to saying it's impossible for a favorite beer.

Coors Light and Shiner Bock for general consumption, some of the Sprechers are amazing, Bell's Third Coast beer, Bombadier, Fullers Pride, 1855 or bottle conditioned ale and other Brits for wintery enjoyment, as well as Smithwick's and Newcastle, Carta Blanca or Sol for south of the border fun....

Find me a barstool and a cooler, I'll make due.

How about the best Barleywine, anyone? I'll vote Sprecher on this one....

Chuck, if you can find a Sprecher "triple" it's in the same league as the Chimay. $2 a 16-oz bottle in four-packs.

I have been hooked on this IPA from " Spinnakers " in Victoria BC for a few years now. I drove an hour out of my way to buy a dozen large ones. I then drove back to the Ferry to get to the island I am staying on right now. Tastiest IPA I have ever tasted.

I like O'Douls because it tastes familiar and only has 70 calories.
I can't be swilling down a half dozen colas when I am out and about.
I am also a root beer aficionado.
1919 is up there with the greats , but only available in kegs.
They make a personal 2 1/2 liter keg that is maybe the only way I could have it at home on a regular basis.
I have bought 8 gallon kegs for different functions and can get it on tap at a few joints around town.
As root beers go , this is a good'un.
From a bottle , there are quite a few good ones.
Anyone from the upper mid west remember the three cases of returnables for 10.00 deals............. Fox Deluxe , Hauenstein , Buckhorn ?
I thought these were the worst beers ever made........maybe they were.
But an old timer once told me that out of those 24 bottles of beer , there were probably five or six good ones.
Drink them first and the rest go down easy.:devil1:

It's threads like this one which have me considering the sidelines.

I mean, I'm working on a cup of coffee at the moment. It's WELL before the usual accepted hour of "5:00 somewhere." But as an example, when Norcal mentions Allagash Curieux, well, it piques an interest.

Dubuque Star is easily the worst I've ever had. Lemon Drano was the usual vote, and frankly, none of us liked it. It was an impossibility to find the six good bottles in any case.

But as a broke student, the price point was Special-Olympics accessible. $2.75 per case INCLUDING the $1.20 bottle deposit. You'd think we'd have just quit drinking, but nobody likes a quitter :devil1:

And dammit, how could I leave out my beloved Lone Star beer, btw? I love the stuff, or if we had a way-back machine, how about some Andecker.....never had one, but I know where there is an empty keg and a lot of nostalgia goes around that for me.

stdlrf11

I used to love drinking Lone Star, but now it tastes like shit to me.

If I want nostalgic, I'll drink warm Coors Originals. I used to sneak one a week from the old man's 12 pack untill I had enough to get a few buddies and me drunk. We would start a camp fire by the lake and BS all night about what we were gonna do with our lives.

I live within a short driving distance of Stone Brewing company and sadly I've never tried any of their beers. My wife's ex boyfriend took her on a tour of the factory when they had an open house for locals only.

She says it brings back too many bad memories for me to bring a six pack or 22 oz in the house. I'll have to try it out on a guys night kinda thing.

When I was in college, a roommate and I (one drunken night) decided to build a shelf on our wall and do "99 different bottles of beer on the wall". Well before I moved out, we had put over 200 different bottles of beer on our shrine. There are a couple in your picture that I have tried, but for the most part I find that I am a big Hefewiezen fan after being stationed in Germany for 3 years.

I am generally not a fan of very bitter beers. For me smooth and full of flavor are important. Nothing I can't stand more than a watered down beer.

There's a local pizza company that brews it's own beers. There Hef is top notch, it has the slightest hint of banana in it.

Anchorblew - definitely need to make it over to Stone!!! Hefs are good! I have tried many different craft ones but have never found one I truly enjoyed. My favorite is probably Widmer. Smooooth and FULL of flavor I agree are great attributes to a truly good brew. I have tried many IPA's and some just lack the depth and slight sweetness that I like.

SuperD - wow, never knew that about Viginia and their alcohol limit??? Wonder how many other states have this law.

Shiner Bock

I tried the Lagunitas Brown Shugga last week. The guy at the package store that I trust for beer recommendations said it was worth trying and there was very little of it around the area, so I gave it a whirl.

I thought it was excellent. No way you could ever tell from the taste that it's almost 10%. The bitterness you expect never comes, it's just smooooooth and tasty. A unique brew.

Great Western Premium or Pilsner
Guinness (or any stout that the bar carries)

Coors Light for cooking and marinading

That said, I'd rather have my single malt or a rye and coke. I should take a pic of my shelf, think I've got about 20 bottles of booze up there.

Yep, the Brown Shugga is a gooood one! I agree that you can barely taste the high alcohol content in it. IPA's are definitely my favorite and what I prefer to drink most of the time. Stouts, porters, barley wines and fruit flavored brews are likely my least favorites.

So, anyone else have any good ones to mention?

brown shugga is great. it used to just come in the bomber, but now they have it in the six-pack. My all-time favorite is the dogfish 90 minute...but I have to say that the burton baton ..90 minute oaked ..is pretty darn good. and if anyone is into pumpkin ale, the weyerbacher is phenomenal

New Belgium Brewery in Fort Collins, Co has some good ones. Probably my favorite from their line-up is Fat Tire, but I also like their Sunshine Wheat.

I also REALLY like Pete's Wicked Strawberry Blonde; Breckenridge Brewery's Agave Wheat; Sam Adam's Lite- though they're not considered a micro brew anymore-; and Kona Brewing had a limited edition that was slightly fruity, and slightly coffeeish at the same time that I really liked.

I am a fan of beer. But I am no beer snob, I can't even really pretend to be one if I try. But you know, drinking since I was 12 I have a little experience. I occasionally brew up a little here at home. But that's just background. What really gets me writing this today is because of a trip to the local BevMo yesterday. As I checked out their beer supply I came across several varieties of a German brand called Tucher. I grabbed one bottle of each type they had. They didn't have what I was looking for but I felt like trying to jar some old memories. I remember, years ago, at a divey bar up on Haight street called noc noc. They may still be there, I dont know. They had an amazing variety of beers that changed regularly. One time I was there they had Tucher's Fest beer. It was exceptional. I declared it to be the best beer I had ever had. I have never had it again. So here I sit with several beers hoping to get a taste from one of them that will spark a memory. And I wonder what Your best beer was?

When I was younger, I was more of a beer snob, preferring British and Belgian ales. I liked 'em bitter and malty.

Now my favorite beer is whichever is the coldest one in the cooler on a hot day. I can enjoy an ice cold Pacifico just as much as a Chimay.

Of the Tucher varieties I sampled, I really liked the Dunkles Hefewizen the best. It is a wheatbeer but maltier (malty-er?) than a regular wheatbeer and it is cloudy with yeast. Very nice flavor and I plan on stocking up on it a bit. I was planning on doing a little homebrewing this year and I think my project will be to try and duplicate this style of beer.

I don't think you can really go wrong with a Weiss Bier. They all seem to have a slight undertone of citrus that compliments all the other flavors well.

i'm not much of a beer drinker, except for what i stole from my dad as a kid. back then, all i could get was Lowenbrau, Grolsch, and Heinekin.

on the rare occasion i do buy beer, it's always either Corona, or Yuengling Lager. it's the best selling beer in my area, probably because it's local, but's pretty good, too.

Duvel (triple fermeted from heaven)
Westmalle Triple (their double is darker...both are primo)
Rochefort 10 or 8 (on tap, this is the bomb)
Maredsous (on tap, this is the phatty bomb)

I must admit, S.Smiths Oatmeal Stout is certainly a contender.
