This is high energy particles spewing out of a new star. It's 480 light years away. The star that is actually releasing the energy is out of frame.
I thought it was pretty cool.

I'm charging my camera's battery up right now so when that new star comes closer, I can 'snap' a pix of those 'high energy particles'. Very cool!

The missus wanted to go into astronomy as a teen but was discouraged by the math involved. I was discouraged by the lack of job prospects.
Instead, I went into wildlife biology. I love working with animals, but in terms of finding employment doing it...:spuf:
On the good side, we live out in the woods with no city in sight, so we get a clear picture of the night skies and plenty of wildlife too! :-D

It was my favorite course in college.
The teacher was a retired Astronomer that had worked at the McDonald Observatory in TX.
He had 10 and 12 in reflectors at school for us to use, and a 9 in refractor at his home, which is a big refractor to have at your house...about 8-9 ft long...

Me too. All that math is the hardest part of astronomy. I was in remedial math senior year of high school. lol lol lol. But I still find space & science really interesting!:wolfgang:
