Hey dudes,

I have a shot at a Severtech in a trade. My end is worth a bit more but I don't use it all that much and I am curious about this legendary auto.

Are they all that? How sharp are these bitches? Is it like the auto to end all autos?

Can I get some input from ST owners pleez?

Thanks

I own one, nice knife, built like a tank, but with that comes big, bulky and weighs a ton. I mainly bought it because of the lefty option. If you don't use your knives to hammer threw metal drums you can find a better EDC @ a lower price IMO. Tell the guy to throw in some extra bucks to make it an even trade, that way you can get your money back if you don't like the knife. :cheesydevil: ILK

Yeah, the weight thing is a concern..... I just got a Benchmade AFO-II and that's about as heavy as I want to go.....

I don't think they have the weight on the ST site.... I'll have another look.

I think they're very cool. My comments are based on a sample of 1. The A2 comes sharp as hell. The blueing on the blade is not completely even, but on this knife that's ok because you quickly get the sense that it's not a svelte vixen; it's a rough and tumble Orc that will do what it takes to get the job done. The button is a little rough too, but in a sense that's good since it means no accidental openings.

If you're into autos I think you need one.

Is that what they do the blade? Blueing? Its not a coating of some sort?

I was hoping it was DLC like Spydie uses. That shit is tough!

Good knives, built like a brick shithouse. I have owned two and ended up selling them, not my cup of tea. If you want a bombproof auto, then you will love them. However, they are extremely heavy.

If the maker decided to go full scale production with the design I think he would have a lot of success, but they are hard to find and expensive. I ended up selling both and just carrying by Benchmade 5000, as I am not worried about thrashing it and having to replace it if necessary.

Yeah, I'm over carrying heavy knives. Its not worth it IMO. I prefer something with a nice thin edge that can slice and dice to a sharpened prybar.

Thanks for the input!

am i correct in understanding that the "usual" Severtech autos sell for $250?

Hey Harm

Yeah, but its fookin hard to lay hands on one.

The Spartan version is awesome - and double the price.

One of my all time favourite movies!

in a week or so i think i'll order a regular Severtech even though i love the Spartan.my thinking is that by the time it's done i should be able to have the money set aside it:cheesydevil:

Just get the stock ST and re-profile the blade, will look very similar to the Spartan, Im pretty sure the handles are identical.

The handles are identical AFAIK. The blade is hand-ground on the Spartan, hence the increase in price. Funny how people complain about the price of the Spartan yet are willing to pay much, much more for a mid-tech from a "famous" maker.

I kinda have to laugh about the weight of the Severtech being a problem. But I guess because I often carry a 1911, everything's relative. Honestly I'd rather have a slightly heavy, bulky knife that I can depend on to open a tank like a tin can vs. a lighter, slimmer one that can't.

Its tough getting one dude, the guy only takes cash or MO's or cheques. No PayPal etc.

Plus its devilish hard getting hold of him apparently...

You make a convincing argument friend. Do you really think this knife is that much better than a Benchmade AFO-II or a Protech TR-3 for example?

Aaron is a little tough to track down but it is well worth the effort I have a tanto version out for a bead blast of the blade right now and a Spartan as well. These are tanks but no heavier than say a ZT 0300.

What is "better"?

Tougher? Severtech. Absolutely, positively, without a doubt.

Sharper? That depends on how well you keep 'em sharp. I think the Severtech is EASIER to keep sharp because it's all straight edges.

The BM and the Protech obviously have the edge (haha) in stain resistance as the Severtech blade is made from A2.

Frightening small children? I would say the nod goes to the Severtech for that one. :devil1:

Feels nice in the pocket of your khakis? I'd vote for the Protech on that one. The Severtech will chew up your pocket after a while.
