Let me drag the Pro-Tech Don knife into some thoughts of other Devil fans. To me Pro-Techs are the best knife you can buy( my 2 cents)
I know they have some sweet customs but that is not what I usually end up with . No complaints. Dennis is making so many variants that it is hard to keep up with them. I want the Don but I just bought the Brent # 3? so If I want to go on a real vacation my wife tells me to sell a knife!!!!what nerve. Anyone have this knife or any comments
about it to share.? Think it will pass the speed test?

Everyone has their perception of a "perfect" knife or as perfect as one can get for being mass produced. This is strictly an individual opinion. When it comes to quality, I can say I've been extremely satisfied with Dave's offerings. Years before I became a Protech dealer, I was a Protech FAN. One of the reasons being that their customer service is top notch and above a lot of other manufacturers.

Now, to the DON:

I have to say that the Don caught me by surprise at the Pasadena Show I attended a few months back. I met up with Dave at the show and he was more than happy to show off his latest offerings. This was the first I had seen/heard of the DON and I liked what I saw.

The Don almost goes off in a direction of it's own when compared to Protech other offerings. Most other offerings are more design oriented and practical for the work they are designed for. This seems to be Protechs "pretty" knife.

Don't get me wrong, I love beautiful knives and this one is no exception! On the DON it's the "little" things that go unnoticed but all mesh together to produce one sleek and very stylish Italian influenced auto.

The handle is tapered comfortably, my first impression of the knife before I picked it up was "it was too thin" but once in hand, the thought left my mind. To add further to the beauty of the knife, the ends are fluted to produce an almost "deco" style to the handle.

What most people do not know is that the DON is one of the HARDEST or, that is to say, most time consuming knife Protech makes...

Example:

The handle inserts are totally 3D CNC machined on a DRY machine and each PAIR takes 15 minutes to complete...

The knife over all weighs in at about 2.4 ozs! Sounds light but like i said, all the features mesh....

The blade appears to be a modified bayo style blade which reminds me of a stretched and thinned out Godfather blade with wing guards. Great for penetrating heavy clothing and the blade is long enough to make an effective slash.

The blade is a little lighter than the handle as opposed to some other knives with aluminum handles and say a 154CM blade. Some autos kick hard because the blade is heavy and the spring is overpowered. In the DONs case, the snap is perfect.

It is light enough so that the user does not feel much "recoil" as I would call it. Snap is not a determining factor in a knife for me (personally). Instead, the DON wins because of it's fit and finish and overall appearance. This being the most interesting DON variant I own.

Overall It is a great knife!, you will not be disappointed. I personally know someone who has EVERY DON variant including CUSTOM and 1 of 1's and I own several prototypes and FPR knives myself!

I wouldn't sell it if I would not carry it although... uhhh.... the DON does not come with a clip.

One thing to add, The Guards seem to present a little of a pocket carry issue as they get snagged up.

A single-action with pocket clip (TU) would "wave" nicely!

Well said, John. I can say without a doubt that description is dead on. I love the DON, but it probably does need a pocket clip if you want to carry.
