Wow! 2000 posts, actually this should be 2001. Not bad for 8 months. I've been off all week from the day job and getting some decent shop time so I thought I'd share a few pics of this weeks progress......

Group shot......

L to R....XL FOS Pikal, FOS, LG tanto, and a yet to be named proto that is basically a FOS with a modified grip

XL Pikal FOS....Real happy with how it turned out. Hopefully I can sharpen it without cutting my fingers off. Very, very pointy....sorry Semper but this thing has no utilitarian purpose whatsoever....hope you don't mind :vatoloco:

Vincent Van MO! I don't know if that name even does you justice. Pieces of art for sure. How much difference is there on the grip on the proto FOS?

Thanks for the nice compliment.

There is almost 3/4" more handle on the proto.

Glad you like it buddy!

I'm not kidding even un-sharp that tip wants to stab me every time I touch it. It's a mean little....(well really not so little...4" with over half the backside sharp to)...piece.

I should be able to get it sheathed up and sharp this weekend. I'll pm you when its done :devil1:

MO I like the handle on the Proto for us guys with mitts for hands. Please consider it for the regular line up. :internetpolice:

A little slice every now and then is good to remind you what your playing with! I cut myself twice while playing with the new Umnumzaan last night! :thrust:

Update...

I got that XL Pikal sharpened tonight and it is officially the stabbiest thing I have ever made. Nasty sharp polished convex edge on both front and back.

Semper...I apologize in advance....this thing will pick a fight with you and will most likely draw blood soon after you receive it :vatoloco:

I know this maybe a stupid question. What is the difference between the Pikal and the FOS? Is the Pikal sharpend on on the top and bottom blade? I see the different grinds, so please feel free to enlighten me, because I need it. Looks like another knife to buy down the line. This 12 step program is not working. LOL:decisions

I really like the looks of your knives, the grips look wicked grippy. What kind of tool do you use to texture the handles?

Hey bud, not a stupid question at all. My answer may be but as I understand it...... The pikal reference is borrowed from the terminology used to describe a system where the techniques focus on using the inside edge (Reverse grip edge in) for hooking, and cutting/ripping as you retract (The SouthNarc Shivworks material and some of Ray Floro's stuff are where I was exposed to the term). So basically a Pikal FOS is a backward FOS where the topside is the primary edge and the outside curved edge is the secondary. So in a forward grip the primary edge is up and in reverse it is in. The outside edge has been sharpened on the two I have done but it could be left as a false edge if someone preferred.

Thanks Mike. I do it one of two ways. On the narrow grooves, I use the corner of a scotchbrite wheel mounted on a buffer. The wider grooves I do on the KMG small wheel attachment using the technique Ken Brock laid out on a thread in his forum.
