Rap = crap

MTV has changed the music world for the worst.

It use to be bands with good music ruled. Now they have to look good and have a good producer behind them. They killed rock. One of my fav.-- is Pink Floyd. Can you see them on MTV. Led; Tom, Any of them.

Insted we have Brinnty and All the other half ass singers in the world.

VIDIO KILLED THE RADIO WORLD.

Yes, I like VH1, I watch it more than MTV I would say. Usually I'm watching the news or something educational (semi) :)

of course not,it's all about selling stuff/anything.

the average rap gangsta fan wannabee buys all that expensive rocawear, phat pharm,g-unit and drive escalades and tahoes with 24 inch rims.
doesn't matter where the money comes from as long as they keep buying the shit.
even mcdonalds and burger king use rap music to sell their food.
that's why you never hear metal/heavy music on the radio, their fans don't spend money on bling.:wolfgang:

I wish they had an all Alt Rock station. Only that does is AOL radio(that I know of). Marilyn Manson, korn, papa roach, Shinedown, metallica, seether, slipknot, etc.

Rap, country, etc. I can put up with. Light rock and pop? Makes me want to go berzerk

M.T.V. singlehandedly responsible for the negrification of the youth of America. I see none of that influence in Europe....certainly not here in the Middle east. The shit , from products to programming , attitudes to ideals , is fed to youth like food pellets to a lab rat.
And they are a hungry lot , aren't they ?
How does it work ? I have no concept of self....I'll just latch on to the nearest identity that was shucked my way via the gas filled tube that has been babysitting me since age 2 ?
I remember when you could see a variety of music on M.T.V. , but the forces of Madison avenue have taken over in a large way , and are selling a lifestyle. Might not be yours....but damn , it sho nuff looks to be desirable to us wegros who gots no concept of what the fuck we is.
Food pellets to fucking lab rats !
Whew , that end of the world thread got me stoked.....and I had a good pissed off rant that I am going to have to save for a later date , because I am fresh out of vitriol.
Suffice it to say that M.T.V. is not evil , but it is not good.
J.S.

Mr.LaBella

a necessary evil then, tubtar?

tubtar

Man , I grew up hating American Bandstand and all it stood for......because of my cousin Penny. She was a teenager in the mid 60's and come Saturday morning , when cartoons were supposed to be on ,she would come down and change the channel.
So it took me a while to warm up to M.T.V. , and once I decided that it was O.K. , it started sucking.
But I wasn't haunted by images of Dick Clark ........or my cousin Penny.
I just came to grips with the fact that it sucked and quit watching.
I think I am a necessary evil , and as such , I won't give M.T.V. equal billing.
Lots of people think I suck , but changing my channel will prove to be a bit more of a challenge.
Hey , if M.T.V. does it for you , good luck with that and God bless.
Fucking Soul Train used to be cool too.
You could write it off as the fact that I am getting older......but I am not getting dumber.
Teach the little ones to be individuals......not individuals like the thousands of other " individuals " who model themselves after nit wits who could care less what impact they have on others ......once the check clears. Just keepin it real , Homey ! From the heart and from the hood.
J.S.

What's MTV?

<BIG>A long, long time ago... I can still remember how
That music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance,
That I could make those people dance,
And maybe they'd be happy for a while.</BIG>
<BIG>But February made me shiver,
With every paper I'd deliver,
Bad news on the doorstep...
I couldn't take one more step.</BIG>
<BIG>I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
But something touched me deep inside,
The day the music died.</BIG>
<BIG>Soo..Bye, bye miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
And good ol' boys were drinking whisky and rye?
Singing this will be the day that I die
this will be the day that I die</BIG>
<BIG>Did you write the book of love
And do you have faith in God above
If the Bible tells you so
Do you believe in rock n roll
Can music save your mortal soul
Then you can teach me to dance real slow</BIG>
<BIG>Well I know that you're in love with him
'Cause I saw you dancing in the gym
You both kicked off your shoes
Then I dig those rhythm and blues</BIG>
<BIG>I was a lonely teenage broncin' buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck
but I knew that I was out of luck
The day the music died</BIG>
<BIG>I started singin'...</BIG>
<BIG>Bye, bye miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
And good ol' boys were drinking whisky and rye?
Singing this will be the day that I die
this will be the day that I die</BIG>
<BIG>Now for 10 years we've been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rolling stone
But that's not how it used to be

When the jester sang for the king and queen
In a coat he borrowed from James Dean
In a voice that came from you and me

And while the King was looking down
The jester stole his thorny crown
The courtroom was adjourned
No verdict was returned</BIG>
<BIG>While Lennon read the book of Marx
The quartet kept practice in the park
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died</BIG>
<BIG>We were singin'</BIG>
<BIG>Bye, bye miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
And good ol' boys were drinking whisky and rye?
Singing this will be the day that I die
this will be the day that I die</BIG>
<BIG>Helter Skelter in a summer swelter
The birds flew off with the fallout shelter
Eight miles high and falling fast</BIG>
<BIG>It landed foul on the grass
The players tried for a forward pass
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast</BIG>
<BIG>Now the halftime air was sweet perfume
While sergeants played a marching tune
We all got up to dance
Oh, but we never got the chance</BIG>
<BIG>'Cause the players tried to take the field,
The marching band refused to yield.</BIG>
<BIG>Do you recall what was revealed,
The day the music died?
We started singing</BIG>
<BIG>Bye, bye miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
And good ol' boys were drinking whisky and rye?
Singing this will be the day that I die
this will be the day that I die</BIG>
<BIG>There we were all in one place
A generation lost in space With no time left to start again
So come on Jack be nimble, Jack be quick
Jack Flash sat on a candle stick
'Cause fire is the devil's only friend.

As I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage
No angel born in hell
Could break that satan's spell</BIG>
<BIG>And as flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite
I saw satan laughing with delight
the day the music died.</BIG>
<BIG>I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away</BIG>
<BIG>I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn't play</BIG>
<BIG>And in the streets the children screamed
The lovers cried and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells all were broken</BIG>
<BIG>And the three men I admire most
The Father Son and Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died</BIG>

<BIG>They were singin'</BIG>
<BIG>Bye, bye miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
And good ol' boys were drinking whisky and rye?
Singing this will be the day that I die
this will be the day that I die</BIG>

lets see....
born 84
80's hair bands
90's had some passble stuff(old DRE, old snoop), the vast majority was CRAP
2000 the CRAP artists won't die... they keep coming out the wood work. Every teen out there thinks they're black.

what do I listen to? Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Metallica, Niel Young, Zepplin, Die Krupps, Ed Guy, Neitzer Ebb, Hendrix, Ozzy. I gave up on TV and radio a LONG time ago.

Any one notice that the best music is the most depressing? I mean, its great music, but its about love that can't be had, dying, and the death of the American dream? At least the stuff I listen to, anyways. Mostly alternative rock.
