I have been doing a lot of thinking of late. Which is pretty difficult considering I often am working without the proper tools. Anyhoo...

After seeing the way things basically went to hell over night in NOLA, and all the other places that the scum of society are allowed to go unchecked. While my household is armed, I want something with a little more firepower. I have the modified 10-22, and it is accurate to 100 yards, it isn't really an impact weapon for anything bigger than small game. Yes, you could take out a person, but for all intents and purposes not the weapon of choice for larger "game".

So, I have been looking at an AR-15. Looking specifically at the Colt M-4. For those of you with experience with these types of weapon any input would be appreciated. I have heard that the Colt is a great weapon. I know there are a ton of makers and aftermarket accessories out there. Suggestions, are much appreciated.

I like Colts, my first M4 style rifle was a Colt Sporter. But I would suggest you consider building your own. With all the kits out there you can build one to your EXACT tastes for less than a standard Colt.

I have my long range AR done, now I am looking at building my shorty. I will most likely do a part by part order b/c of finacial restrictions. Check out www.ar15.com (http://www.ar15.com) in the equipment exchange section for some good deals

I hadn't thought of doing that. I have joined AR15. SOOO much info there.

Only problem is I don't know what I need. Is there a book or some good reading on line on the subject? I will check AR15 for a build your own thread.

I like my Bushmaster M4. Cost less than the colt and shoots great.

You can't go wrong with either the Colt or the Bushmaster. I've had my Colt M4 for several years and it's a great weapon. But I'd encourage you not to overlook a good 12 gauge shotgun for home defense. I keep a Benelli M3 handy. There are many good quality shotguns that can be had for a reasonable price that would definetly fit the bill.
