Hello everyone,
Well I will get straight to the point. I have been reading and trying different things with my leather sheathes. I have tried the bees wax and mink oil and parifin and mink oil. But something dawned on me the other night , They use soy oil for candle making and they say you can use the softened wax for a moisturizer on your skin. Wouldn't this work on leather also? Has anyone tried this? If so what happened? Thanks everyone and looking forward to responses,

James

James, I think I've read that any kind of an oil will actually break down the
leather over time.( even neatsfoot) I may be mistaken.
I would think that a bio oil like soy would even get rancid
and under go polymerization.
Thats what I'm thinking....what would you guys say?

Pure Neatsfoot Oil and a mix of Pure Neatsfoot and Olive Oil are the only two I have ever used (since 1951). I'd be interested in any real success stories using other products, but I'm pretty set in my ways by now.

I am curious about the soy oil as well.

As far as conditioners go I've had really good results with Aussie Leather Conditioner from Fiebings. It has that same base of beeswax.

Gringo, when the fibers in leather under the top grain dry out they start to seperate (cracking results). Some sort of oil (Neatsfoot) or conditoner treatment either prevents this or stalls it for a very long time.

Well I guess I will give it a try. Not sure about it going bad. If that was the case wouldn't neets foot go bad because it is an animal by product? But on to trying it. Will let everyone know how it turns out.

I am sorry.
Once again i have spoken without first putting brain into gear.
Perhaps I am thinking that petrolium products that are the bad
I think I may have been thinking of a final finish and not a conditioner.
Anyhow, aww hell.:deviltard:

Bingo! You are 100% right on the petroleum products, which is why I don't use Neatsfoot Oil Compound as it contains petroleum distillates.
