It looks like there is a "new" (old) maker back in the auto knife business. Details are scarce at the moment but from what I can tell it looks like Special Weapons by Advanced Technologies, or SWAT, has returned to the market with the resurgence of an old model and the introduction of several new ones.

First Paragon, now Advanced Tech. What do you guys think is driving the resurgence of these once defunct companies? Are there any companies that went by the way side that any of you would like to see return to production?

These have been up on PVK for years.

Nope. There's a few new ones here. The ones w/the rotating release. And the Centurian is slightly different from the old one.

You're probably thinking of THIS ONE... (http://kis.net/00/advancedtechhooker.jpg)

I was fairly certain I'd never seen these until just recently. Since the time of my last post I have talked with the previous owner of Advanced Tech. and he informed me that he sold the company to an unnamed source back in mid-June. He said that the purchaser bought the company primarily for the military contracts but that they had plans to release a few of their never before released knife designs to the public. It looks like a really interesting opening/locking mechanism. I can't wait to get my hands on one and try it out.

Here's a quick, crappy pic of the original set of three Centaurions.
The Centaurion 1 is the largest
The Centaurion 2 is the smallest!
The Centaurion 3 is the middle sized one

Never seen these before...looks sturdy from here. Is that a lock up tab ahead of the firing button? Any play in the blades?

Yeah, that's the safety, and there's an adjustment screw so you can remove any blade play.

My first auto was a S+W SWAT conversion. I don't know if this is the same people that make these, it was ok for a start in autos............but not really cool...Now I got that from PVK and I notice that they do S+W dual action knives which are coil spring driven ( how in heck do they do that:devilzeek)........I can understand it with a leaf spring, but with a coil spring??......don't know if these are the same folks, but I have seen SWATS on PVK for ever. I think that the market in OTF's needs a good kick up the arse...........all the stories about poor quality control with some makers..and why are they so darn expensive, SWAT had a go at making a slightly cheaper one..but I dunno how good they are..........:easydevil:

SWAT are very well built. Smith and Wesson are not so good.
