I've got a handful of non-standard Randalls that are worthy of posting in this thread. I just need to learn how to take pictures of knives.

Here's a 5-6. The wood is African Pink Ivory.
This pic is not that great, but the knife is.

I realize this is an old thread but it is a sticky so...

I have about 10 Randalls including a personalized one for each of my sons. Will post pictures one of these days.

I just wanted to relate a story about Randalls and knives and friendship. I had a good friend about 15 years older than me that I used to hunt and fish with. We had some great times. He was very generous and it was hard to repay him and his family for his generousity because he gave so much to everyone. I decided to give him a Randall Bird and Trout knife and ordered one with the intention of giving it to him on his 65th birthday. There was a 2 1/2 year waiting list but I ordered it on time. I had no idea whether he even knew about Randall knives but I did and thought it was a fitting gift.

Well, the knife came in early, but my friend Tom had contracted brain cancer following an earlier bout with lung cancer that we thought he had beaten. It was clear that he would not make his 65th birthday and I gave him the knife. It really caught him by surprise, it turns out that he knew more about Randall knives than I did and had wanted one since he was in college. The knife was featured with family pictures at his funeral and went to his oldest son.

He never had a chance to use it, but he would have. I have never used one of mine, but I should. Life is short.

Those are all great photos and a great story. My first Randall is on order but it won't be delivered until next June. A Smithsonian Bowie. I've loved that style blade since I saw it so many years ago in the movie "The Iron Maiden" and on a TV show called Jim Bowie. Only 14 months to go and I'll have it.

Beautiful collections folks! I have only ever owned one and I bought it specifically as a Christmas gift for my father. I bought it through a forum and prompltly sent it to RMK for engraving. It's one of the finest knives I have ever handled. Once I had it in hand thoughts went through my head of keeping it. :decisions But good won out over evil and I gave it to him. He loves it and it's his prize grail knife. Ever since I handled that Model #27 Trailblazer, I have wanted one.

It was closer to 5 years waiting list 6 months ago. I ordered one about a year ago. Was going to start ordering one every six months, but changed my mind. Why would I wait five years for a Randall when I could have a Barkie (or many other fine knives) today?

But, they do still sell 'em with a wait that long.

Raindog
01-11-2007, 11:35 PM
At present, the wait is 4 years and 9 months. I have 67 Randalls on order (through RMK and various dealers) but then again, I am a young man of 45. :ssmile: I got bit by the Randall bug about 4-5 years ago. The fever heats up and wanes but it never goes completely away.

I used to collect firearms :bang: but knives are so much more interesting. I am set up for life with my guns but there will always be another knife to buy.:bali:

I just received the new catolog with the new price list.
You can only order 1 knife every 3 months.
"Current order deliveries are being scheduled for delivery in 58 MONTHS, year 2011"
https://www.randallknives.com/order/index.php

I never ordered an knife from Randall because the wait was to long. I did order 2 knives from an dealer that had a two year wait. They were due in nov and dec. 2006. Now the wait is 3 years & 2 months.

In 1998 a girlfriend called Randall and asked if they had any knives for sale. They had one. She bought me an #3-5" stag that came with an brown stitched sheath for my birthday.
You can't do that today. I have an 98' catalog and the wait was 1 year & an 87' catalog and the wait was 2 years 2 months. Go figure?
:spin:
I spoke to Gary Randall and he said they are 8 weeks behind on orders.
Yesterday the Dealer called me and said "your Randall #1-5" is in".
I sent him a check yesterday and should have it in a few weeks.

Got one more coming in feb. a #4-7"
Both knives have the same options foward NS hilt, NS buttcap, and the new G-10 green micarta that looks like the old tenite.

Yesterday I went to the WAC gun show and they had the big knife show in conjunction with it. I never saw a Randall or Bark River. I only saw the one Blackjack Trail Guide for 165 and the only 1-7 in the place was the one on my belt.

I met the puyallupknifeguy and he is a nice young man. It's good to know there are young folks out there to carry on the tradition. I hate to see us corrupt him. :jdwink2:

I love Randall's, but there is no way I could wait 4-5 years, much less 1-2 years for a knife. My taste changes so much I'm sure I would be wondering why the hell I ever ordered the thing after 5 years.

Yup, nice.
Is that a model 26?

One thing about buying carbon now, Randall has put a 5 option limit on their knives, and those options get used up quick, and stainless is an option on most Randalls, so by buying carbon you free up an option.

I'm wanting a model 23 now.

Its a new custom Sullivan C sheath, Riveted, Rough Back, Canteen Snap, for a 15, 17, or 18 5.5. Its actually a second, for some stitching irregularity I cannot find.

I read in Outdoor Life, this one time, that sometimes one gun can make a collection because it is so special. Your Randall certainly fills the bill in that category.

Boogerball - yours is probably very late 1960's at the earliest, but more likely from the mid 1970's...

Matt, cool thread dood - it was nice seeing you at the BAKCA show last month. I wasn't kidding about 'running late for a plane'...the bastids cancelled our flight and bumped us to Delta...the plane was loaded and waiting for us when we boarded!

I have a friend that has coveted my Randall #1 since the day i got it and showed it to him. He's literally and figuratively begged and whined for it. Last week he offered me a NIB Browning BSS F/F 3" 12 ga. even up. I almost did that deal but couldn't give up my precious. Tonight I found one just like mine on ebay, acted as his agent and bought it for him, now. This one is a tad nicer than mine but mine has more girth on the stag. :bang:

Mine were ordered in 2004. They will arrive soon, they are already in customs, waiting for clearance. A model 1 and a model 2, both with stacked leather handles. I can't wait. The good thing is I will have them, the bad thing is I will only see them in august as I work abroad and don't return home before then. Oh well, I guess after 4 years I can still wait 2 months.

Really happy with these. Nicely finished, my name etched on the reverse side. Comfortable in hand. After hearing/reading all those horror stories about "thrown together" and "badly finished" Randalls, I'm happy to say that my 2 specimens prove those stories wrong.

I saw some nice Randals for sale on the official Spyderco site. Not sure why they were there but while most were sold out there were a couple nice ones left.

Great looking knives by the way. That #1 is a true classic and the #2 is very cool. I have never seen a number 2 before.

I have always liked those German made Veitnam era stainless Randals even though they are not quite as collectible.
