Well All u bastards have guns and alot of people on other Knight forum has GUNs so I think I want one too :) This feeling is in a very mature way and in no way whats so every meant to harm anyone. Mainly to have, tune up and shoot off at the nearest range.

I don't no tooooo much about guns except that .45 and up goes BOOM!!!!! So i would like to start lower then that.

I wont be getitng a gun soon. I plan to take lessions in the upcoming month or so. and then try to get the desired Class license and so on.

So what Im tring to do here is to get a head start on the buying and finding out whats good and wats not.

Ive picked up some interest on several models of guns due to "so called very realistic gun games" that claim the stats on each gun are accuarate as can be minus the recoil. Obviously, I am not one to say that they are liars or not since i never fired a gun. But this is all i have to work with so tell me what your opinions are on the fallow guns

Glock, USP and fiveseven

In the end I think I will be looking for a gun that is very low maintience ( i only plan to go to the range once ever month or two, ya I know better to rent but I jsut want to own one. )

well let the post roll! and please forgive me If I sound like a biget or am leaving out much needed info. I know alot about knives and know thats theres a very BOLD line between Crap, Low, entry, high, semi hi and High end knives but with guns.... im a new born

Thanks
Kien

Of the three guns you mention, the USP I am most familiar with. I have 4 of them because I like them a LOT. They are well built, comfortable (for me) and highly reliable. They can be had in many sizes\calibers\configurations. You will not regret getting one if that is your choice I would bet. If you have ruled out the .45 then 9mm and .40 are the remaining choices. The .40 has better stopping power should you use it for self -defense some day, but the 9mm would likely do the job too. Personally, I would go with the .40.

Glock makes a good gun. No doubt about it. Many agencies around the world use it. I just never liked the feel of them enough. But they are good guns.

Unfortunately, I am not sure what you are talking about with the third choice, fiveseven.

FN Five-Seven http://www.impactguns.com/store/fn_fiveseven.html

I read a few articals on it and theres alot of crap on how Civilians should not be able to buy this gun... U know how it is... when they say NO u want it more :)

I had not seen that before. Maybe someone else has experience with it. Personally, I would be hesitent to get a handgun with an 'odd' caliber as ammo would not be as readily available and would probably be more costly. There are so many good choices in 'standard' calibers.

I'm sure you're not looking for a lecture on safety right now and you'll probably learn this in your training as well, but the most important things to keep in mind when becoming a gun owner are as follows:

1) Always assume a gun is loaded.
2) Never point a gun at someone unless you intend to kill him.
3) Keep your finger off of the trigger until you're ready to fire.
4) Always be aware not only of what you're aiming at, but what's behind your target, and everything until the bullet reaches a safe resting point.

I don't mean to nag, I just want to make sure every gun owner understands these aren't suggestions to blow off, they're rules that require obedience in order to be responsible and gain the respect of other gun owners.

Having said that, welcome to the wonderful world of guns and I hope you enjoy your stay. There are a lot of handguns that would suit your needs well, but I think a 1911 would break your metaphorical hymen quite nicely. The 1911 is the basis for nearly all moden hand gun design, and is still a leading choice for many gun owners today. Yes, it is a .45, but they're really not as unwieldy as the movies would have you believe. Something like a Springfield Armory GI spec is a great model at a reasonable price, which will probably run a little under $400.

Or, if you're set on the choices you've listed, there's nothing at all wrong with them. A used Glock would probably provide the most entertainment/use for your money.

My advise is get a .22 pistol to start. Work on your safety, range etiquette, breathing, shooting, cleaning, etc... Then get yourself a Kimber if your into 1911s

+1 On the .22 pistol to start. Low recoil, good accuracy, super inexpensive ammo. The only other place I would recommend starting would be with a .38/.357 revolver, but since you are leaning toward an auto, then the .22 pistol would be my recommendation.

No point spending the $400-$500 on a gun that you don't really enjoy shooting. Develop the skills first, then the right gun will be that much more enjoyable.

400-500 lol thats the same price as a Custom knife I'm looking at :)

Ok thanks for the info and the Safety course lol. Reast easy that I am very mature and dont even oint my knife at someone unless im like 10 feet away. (Ya i know, with guns the 10feet thing wont work lol)

I have a quick question. Why do people call a gun by its caliber? when i look up .22 and .45 on google i get a various selection of gun. several looking very different. When one says .22 or .45 are they speaking of any gun in that caliber range? also Are there any good makers I should be keeping an eye out for?

Thanks

In this context, some people are calling a gun by its caliber because there are so many to choose from that would fit your criteria. For example, if you wanted to pursue the .22 pistol idea, the Ruger MK II is a wonderful line of pistols to look into.

Yes. The .22 has been recommended because it is generally less expensive to buy and shoot. Minimal to no recoil, and is a good 'starter' handgun in general. Ruger makes great .22's but other makers have them too.

The .45 is the classic semi-automatic caliber and the Colt 1911 style is mimicked to this day.

My first pistol was an S&W 422. I was 8 at the time and it was a perfect fit for me. It was a nice accurate plinker. I learned proper handling techniques with it then moved up to a Taurus PT92 when I was 12.

I think .22 caliber rifles and pistols are a good way to start. That's how I plan to start my son. First a BB gun, then a pellet gun, then a .22 rifle, then a .410 shotgun, then a .22 pistol. From there, he can get whatever the hell he wants :punish:

I gotta go to the police station tomorrow and talk to someone about reapplying for a purchasing permit and ID card. You guys keep talking about guns and I have always wanted to get a legit gun. If it looks good I will have to get one, and only one so you guys might want to throw some ideas at me too. Range time whenever but I want a nice and accurate type for the Self Defense thing too. To many options when it comes to them. Hmmm, I gotta get an answer from the police first. :idunno:

Much like a good knife, a good gun will retain a good bit of its value, so if you get something and decide it is not for you, you likely will be able to get much of your money back.

Here is the one I just bought:

If you don't like that style of gun, choose another. Get what guns you like, now what others tell you to get. If you like a more tactical look, check out the Walther P22 or perhaps a Sig Sauer Mosquito

Everything here would apply to you too, except if you are getting it for self-defense, do not get a .22. 9mm is the minimum I would go with, .40 is better, .45 is best.

Also, to both Dracorapier and Spufnik, go to a local gunstore and handle a lot of guns. Don't buy the first day. See what you like. Ask questions. Maybe come back here with some more questions. Most dealers are probably good folks, but some will try to steer you to the most exensive item perhaps. But handle as many guns as you can, just like with a knife, see what feels good in your hand.

I have bought just about every brand of pistol I always wanted recently and I like them all. But if I had to narrow it down to just one to carry as an EDC. It would either be my Glock 23 or my HK compact

My G23 fits my hand like a glove and I actually really like the trigger on that thing. 40 S&W is a good caliber for self defense and it still holds 13 rounds so I am very pleased with it. The only thing I didn't care for was the finish so I sent the slide off to CCR to have a brushed stainless finish put on it. When it returns hopefully this upcoming week, I have a lasermax waiting for it

My HK compact is a sweet shooting gun and I am very happy with it. It's still alittle big for a carry gun but with a good quality IWB holster, it disappears.

Now if we are talking a strictly range gun/ home defense, I would have to choose my Kimber

Start with a .22. You won't regret it and you won't feel bad when you have to feed it. A brick (500) .22 shells is pretty easy on the pocket. Once you find out what you think, it will still prove to be a useful way to train.

This one looks like a good deal to me. Buying outside of a traditional gun shop gives you the ability to haggle :punish:

I know you are interested in a pistol, but have you thought about getting a .22 rifle? I am pretty sure that for many of us, it was the first firearm we shot.

Go to a shooting range that rents guns and try a few out. Make sure you tell them that you have never fired a gun and ask for their opinions. Many ranges have classes for people that want to learn how to shoot and gun safety.

Good luck!!!

HOLLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!! I will be honest. I could watch someone cut a kids throat right in front of me and while I may not approve, the act of wouldn't really sick me out too much. But a few years ago I got my four front teeth knocked out with a pipe and have undergone ALLOT of trauma from it.

Just recently my dentist told me that my real teeth they reimplanted in the ER wouldn't hold up and I am going to need to get implants. She told me one of my current teeth could break off any day now and to be proactive. Worst part is that there was so much trauma to my upper jaw that they are going to have to transplant bone from my chin to my upper jaw to complete the implants. As you can imagine, after so many root canals and straight out pain since this incident, I am not looking forward to this and have been putting it off.

Well last night, my son Odin and I were sword fighting with wooden swords we got at a renaissance festival and he wrapped me in the teeth and I have been in pain for the last 24 hours and my one tooth is wiggling.

Watching that video made me twinge!!!!

I am to the point now where I will shoot someone point blank before I will take a strike to my mouth and if that dude in the video lived, he has full rights to kill that other guy, but not before he tortures his family in front of him
