Now that I'm home, I finally got around to applying for a CCW. It was ridiculously easy. My mom and I went to the Sherrif's office in the Courthouse, asked for the paperwork, filled it out, and left within about 20 minutes. She applied for one too. That was on a Thursday, and they arrived in the mail the next Tuesday. It was over the 4th of July weekend too. I love my state.
The next order of business, of course, was to get a gun and a carry rig. Despite the stupid name and questionable concept, I decided to give Thunderwear a try. I want something that I can use all of the time, in any weather and with any type of clothing. This seems to fit the bill. It's actually pretty comfortable, even sitting down. The draw isn't too speedy but I think it will get better with practice. I'm giving it a one week evaluation, we'll see how comfortable it is next Tuesday.
I ended up getting a Kel-Tec P11 as my carry pistol. Mom got one for Mothers Day and it's the perfect size and weight. The thing only weighs about 22 oz loaded with 11 rounds of 9mm (124 gr Federal Hydra-shoks :-D ). It just came in today so I picked it up and put 70 rounds through it, including 10 of the HPs. It never missed a beat, not even on the hollow points. Just BANG every time I pulled the trigger. The DAO trigger isn't overly great, but for a defensive gun it will work just fine. I'm going to give it a Fluff and Buff as described in the TecWerks section of www.ktog.org. Very helpful site if you're into Kel-Tecs. It's fairly accurate too; my groups shrank considerably by the time I got to the last magazine. They were all in the silhouette at about 10 yards, which is good enough for 99% of defensive encounters. Dinner's ready, to be continued.
