View Full Version : Revolver time

I have a debate. I have decided my next pistol will be revolver. I have personally owned my favorite all time revolver (Colt King Cobra w/ 8" barrel) and sold it foolishly several years ago. I don't really want to buy another of same gun so I have narrowed it down to two guns.

Either

A. This Taurus 44 Mag. w/ 12" barrel

http://www.framelocks.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/pix3810083501.jpg

I can get one of these right now for a steal in IMO

Or

B. A Colt Anaconda 44 Mag w/ 6" barrel
http://www.framelocks.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_pix3857419111.jpg

The Colt would cost me about $200 more and it would be for a gently used one. The Taurus would be NIB with scope mount and rings. What to do, What to do...... If it was two Semi-autos with such different styles, I would try to get both. But I really only need one 44 mag. What do you think?

The Anaconda will always be a Colt and worth $200 more in the long run. The Taurus would make a good user but too damn long for me. Why no love for the Smith 29? Oh, the King Cobra is a fine gun but I have always loved the Python and it is finer than the other two snakes mentioned.

Of the three (Python, King Cobra and Anaconda), I never much carried for the Python. It did cross my mind though. I think I will end up with the Anaconda, but damn, Just the novelty of a 12" barrel and like I said, the price is right. Thats what makes this such a hard choice. Couple that with the fact that I have this weird thing about used guns and can't find a Anaconda NIB for less than $900+, its rough

Have you considered a S&W? I have a 629. It was one of the first handguns I bought and it is the shit, IMO.

TheBadGuy

I have ruled out S&W revolvers all together. I was arrested when I was a younster with one and I consider them to be bad luck for me :dammit:

:-D Close as I am going to get is a Dan Wesson

Guillermo
05-12-2005, 01:26 AM
Damn, $900. Don't remember what I paid but its been about 10 years. The 12" barrel would get old after a while unless you paid the $200 tax and put a stock on it. Now that would be sweet but I would get the Colt. You might want a 6" barrel on the Colt. Just me but for me anything longer is a pain but I guess you are going to target shoot or hunt with it.

Goot pistols but not too popular.

TheBadGuy
05-12-2005, 01:29 AM
I had a Dan Wesson 22 revolver once that was a quality piece, but thats the extent of my experience with them. Their 1911s have my eye right now though and I am finding it hard to stick with the revolver plan the more and more I go to gunbroker.com

ust me but for me anything longer is a pain but I guess you are going to target shoot or hunt with it.

yeah, the most I will do is some target shooting with it. Possible home defense. Just wish I could find a new Anaconda for around $500 or so and I wouldn't have had to post this. But I think I would get the Taurus before I would drop $800+ on any revolver.

Let me check out some more gun auction sites, there may be a winner out there.

Go for the Anaconda... If it was me I'd go for the Anaconda as well, that 12" Taurus doesn't really appeal to me, but so do few revolvers. I don't hunt either, so it would just be the big gun factor... which I really don't care for, because I like full-size, but not bulky semiautomatics. I'm well aware of a revolvers practicalness and realiablity though.

You do not like revolvers because they do not look cool when you shoot them sideways during drive by's!:doublefu: :poke:

Not really on topic but Korth makes a nice and very expensive revolver. Almost got one a time or two but never had all the money when I would see one. Try this link http://www.korthusa.com/

How "young" were ya? I was gonna suggest one of the 7-shot Smiths. A buddy has one and she's a sweetie. (the gun, not my bud)

Unless I missed something in this thread, did you specify DA?

The Ruger Vaquero is one hell of a sturdy wheelgun. Yeah, reloading is slow, but by your own admission it's just for fun and maybe nightstand use.......and CorBon makes some smokin hot .45 LC loads. SA sixguns are fun!

Dylan

Get a Smith! ;-) Preferably a 686 or the 29 if you're dead set on .44 mag

If not go with the Colt or maybe consider a Ruger? The quality is there with the Rugers and they're pretty affordable.

And I don't know about .44 mag as a home defense gun, it's almost a bit too much. You'll DEFINITELY have over penetration and the round will go through many walls. Also, touching off a .44 mag indoors without hearing protection will damage your hearing, maybe cause you to go deaf.

I want the 44 mag to be D/A. A S/A Ruger in 357 is later on down the road

If not go with the Colt or maybe consider a Ruger?

I don't really care for the D/A Rugers too much nor any of their Semi-autos (except .22s)

I can see where the Anaconda can get more supporters than the Taurus, but I think there are some Taurus haters around here :-D I have owned a PT92, a PT99 and a little P-38 snubby from Taurus and I was happy with all three. So I may even look at their Raging Bull series. I don't consider their quality to be below par, I just think when it comes to designs, the Anaconda is ahead. But $200-$400+ ahead? That, I am not sure of

Hawaiian

I happen to like the Rugers very much.

Think of it this way. Would you rather buy a Boker auto or pay $$$ more for a Microtech? I have found that I am happy getting what I want regardles of the cost because in the end you are stuck with it until you trade it off for something you wanted in the first place. Get that damn Colt sir.

TheBadGuy
05-13-2005, 08:07 AM
I am currently bidding on the Colt and plan to get it. BUT I do not feel like Taurus=Boker. More like Taurus=Protech and Colt=Microtech and some Protechs are as nice/nicer than some Mts. :-D

Anyway, the Colt will be mine and I am going to get one of those huge Taurus 12"ers in 17HMR

You are right but for many the name will stand the test of time. The first Taurus I had was a revolver and I thought that it was every bit as nice as a Smith but did not have the name. A new Bushmaster AR is as nice as a Colt AR but I still would rather have the Colt.

Need we say anything more than "Raging Bull"?

That's pretty close to the cheesiest thing I've seen. Most likely will put me off from buying one of the Taurus guns.

Why not just put, "Check It Out ... It's Bigger Than Yours!"

:-D Hey, I like that one and I not in need of valadation to justify my purchases :poke: :D: I like the grips, barrel design, etc... The name is alittle lame and the markings, but thats about it. I got outbid on the Colt again with only 2 days to go. I will bid again but if I get outbid, here I come Taurus :kingkaxt:

Can you really picture Korth or any other fine manufacturer putting something silly like that on the side?

The Korth revolver is the only choice for the most demanding shooter. Its outstanding construction and quality have set a new standard for this class of arm.

Just say no.

TheBadGuy
05-14-2005, 10:59 AM
I think the name Korth is pretty much just as silly as Raging Bull. I took a look at the Korth pistols and they do not appeal to me and I do not believe I even saw a 44 Mag model on their site

TBG,
These are just my opinions. I'm not putting down your choice, just trying to offer better ones. To compliment your fine choices in knives (as I've said before), I think you should go with the best in firearms as well.

No harm intended.

Buy as you will. You just usually have awesome taste in the knives and guns you buy. I think you'd make a mistake in buying a second tier product.

Does it have to be double action? How about:

The 500 Linebaugh (http://www.gunblast.com/500Linebaugh.htm)

If you are going to hunt with it, I'm sure it would give you the most bang for the buck.

Well after being outbid a few times, I let the Anaconda go as well as the thought of a revolver for the time being. I went out to my hammock last week with my full sized HK. I caught a buzz and fondled that baby and when I came back in the house, I had my mind set on a compact USP. After doing some searching I found out that HK is doing away with its stainless models due to price to construct. So I went for a HK compact USP in 9mm stainless. I found a great deal from a distributor that sells wholesale to everyone and ordered one on Friday and should have it tomorrow. A separate thread with pictures will follow :punish:

I bought a S&W 686 with a 6" barrel new in 1986, and have owned it since. Hell I replaced the Goncalvo-Alves stocks with Hogue rubber mono grips before the factory did. I owned a Colt Combat Elite in .45 ACP. Colts are great guns, but not worth the price IMHO. Taurus makes great disposable quality guns. For my dollars S&W is the way to go.

Mr. TheBadGuy,

I have a S&W model 19 with a 6" barrel in .357 which is a blast. I'm not a big revolver fan, but when your packing that kind of firepower, whats the big rush? Also got a snubnose .38 S&W I keep under my pillow.

Best regards,
