I recently bought a GSAR that was advertised on Ebay. It was described as new, never worn and in like new condition, no box or papers. I missed the "Buy It Now" of $350 by seconds (it was there when I saw the auction, then gone by the time I logged in). I e-mailed the seller and told her that I would take the watch at the BIN price if she still wanted to sell it.
Well, the watch I got has a dent in the bezel and a scratch on the bezel insert. It would rate as "good" (77% - 82%) on the TZ scale. I asked for a refund, the seller refused. I then went through the Paypal dispute process, escalted to a claim, and found that I am not elegible for any type of refund because the watch was not bought on Ebay. If the watch had not been sent at all, Paypal would look into it. But, for non-Ebay items, Paypal will not get involved in any claims of misrepresentation of an item's condition.
So...
1) Don't deal with this Ebayer, for anything, as she has no problems describing things as better than they are. Ebay ID: littlelogansmommy
2) Don't expect Paypal to get involved on a transaction made on the forums, unless the item didn't show at all. My bad for not reading the whole policy, and for trying to get a deal in the first place. If I had logged in seconds sooner... but that's of no consequence now.
I hope that someone can benefit from my mistakes, and realize that Paypal may make themselves out to be safe and hassle free, but that's only true if you work within their narrowly defined guidelines.
*EDIT* I wrote the above for one of the watch forums, but here I can vent a little more. During the dispute process, the seller accused me of being a watch dealer, trying to make a profit by buying her watch on the cheap. She even hinted that I might have taken her "perfect" watch and swapped it out for a used one to make the claim! It just burns me that she ends up "winning" in this situation, I'd go to a mail fraud claim if I thought it was worth it. In the end, however, it's still my fault for trying to find a good deal, instead of just buying through authorized sources.
