View Full Version : Finally a FAL

In the 1990's, when I saw the righting on the wall for California, I made some purchases.

Picked up a lot Browning HP magazines, a bunch of magazines for my Mini-14, and bought about 20+ magazines for a rifle I didn't own yet, an FAL.

Waited and wasted too much time. Finally got one.

It's PRK neutered, so all the 20 round magazines I own can't be used except when I'm out of state, but...

DSA G1 receiver and STG58 kit (very minty) built by AZEX in Phoenix.

I don't like the STG stock or guards so I replaced them with an Israeli stock and a Penguin handguard. Also don't like California legal muzzle brakes (but I can't leave it with the STOLL or a naked threaded barrel) so I put on a fake T48 flash hider. 10 round magazine is fixed in place with a set screw through the release.

Shoots like a dream. I'm an idiot for not getting one earlier.

Very nice! Didn't know you were on USN as I saw it there first. I guess the good folks all "hit the same clubs"? :kingkaxt:

Spencer/SAR dragged me over here. Very different forums and I have fun on both.:spin:

It is funny how often you see some of the same faces across the gun/watch/knife/car/truck forums.

Jeff, nice toy mate. I used one in Her Brittanic Majesty's Army for a number of years and never had a problem so long as the babe was kept cleaned and oiled.

We had black plastic furniture on ours as the wood had all been replaced, but the shooting team guys would all have their retro fitted with wood - to be cooler. I still have some old wooden furniture around somewhere - just in case, well I can live in hope.

I have seen these babes fitted with a telescopic sight, bipods from the LMG (7.62mm Bren gun) and also fitted with the 28 round LMG magazine.....and that was'nt for bunny hunting.

All in all I am extremely jealous , Sir. I also like your ride.

Whats the 10 round thing, is that a Calif thing. And why the fixed mag?

Tourist,

California is very restrictive on their control of gun laws. No rifle may be able to carry more then 10 rounds at one time. Since the L1A1 (and many more magazine fed rifles) has a removable magazine it has to be restricted to 10 rounds and may not be removable from the weapon....

Here is my L1A1 and my V93, an HK33 clone:

Actually, it's no rifle bought after a certain date or with "evil features" (pistol grip, flash suppressor, bayonet lug, etc.) can have a removable magazine of over 10 rounds.

My Mini-14 I bought in the early 1990's has boat loads of 30 rounders I use all the time.

Folks are also building AR's with special pistol grips and no muzzle attachements and using 30 rounders.

There is talk of a non-pistol grip replacement being made for the FAL. Because my muzzle break is fake, if I install one, I can use my 20 round magazines.

It's all very silly and very nonsensical, which is probably the point.:deadevil:

Here's me back in the day working hard in the office.

H&K 53's were owned by the 'Company', the Springfield 1911 .45 was privately owned.

But at least you chaps still get to own guns, here I think they are trying to license water pistols.

CWO, nice guns Sir.

I paid $475 for it, and added the T48 foregrip and the "muzzle protector". I have 8 magazines for it, all loaded with surplus Portugese 7.62 and another 4,000 rounds of Lake City 7.62 waiting to be delinked. The Vector Arms retails for $1100 but someone ordered it and didn't want it so I got it for a lot less....

here is a group shot of a few of my collection:

and before you ask...the front sight on the M12 has been properly installed....

CWO, you planning on starting a small war ;-)) I am impressed and envious.

The sooner I get my butt in gear and figure out a way of living in your good country the better.

SWEET!

Last summerI talked to a fellow up on Vancouver Island that had one. It was a dusty ride, up there on the logging roads, but they were having fun.

I'll have to settle for my LR II for the time being.
