What's the best .22 autoloading pistol on the market for less than $400? I grew up shooting a Ruger MK II and think it's a great little gun, but it's a PITA to field strip and frankly the sights suck. They're way too wide. It shoots great though. I'm just curious what the rest of you think. Thanks.

High Standard makes a fine .22 and easy to take down.

The old ones (Hampton) are the best.

My wife loves her Ruger .22 and I had a Bomar site put in the rear.

You have to grind down the take down button though.

I LOVE my Hammerli 280 (not under $400).

I LOVE my Hammerli 280.

Wow. You suck.

I have always been happy with my MKIIs. The cleaning is a little finicky, but if you end up doing it frequently you get the hang of it.

I have always liked the look of the Browning Buckmarks. I have never owned one so I don't know about the takedown on them.

In my opinion the Sig Trailsides are a little overpriced for what they are. At least they were a few years ago when I was paying attention to them.

I have never liked S&W's 22 pistols. Just an aesthetic thing mainly. Now S&W's 22 revolvers are a whole other story. I like the 6-shot guns a lot. Never did care for the 10-shot though. It just didn't seem right.

I have no experience with the Beretta Neos, so can't help you out there. I have not heard stellar things about them though. But again, I have not been paying that much attention.

That aught to work, cough (Bullshit) cough!:welcome:

I like the looks and reviews I have read about the Ruger MK III

Take down is a pain but it is a good shooting system, price around $400.00.
Get an ultrasonic cleaner and just break it down every 4 or 5 cleanings!

I have a MK II and a Colt Woodsman Match Target. I like the Colt just a tad bit more. The trigger feels better to me. Both are a pain to break down.

I ended up with the Ruger Mark II slabside, and I like it!! I have since added some grips and fiber optic sights. True, it is a pain to break down.

A comparison of a Ruger Mk.II and a AWC Ultra Mk. II.

Both using the same ammo: HERE (http://home.comcast.net/~docblase/rugersupp.mpg)

The "clicking" IS the AWC firing. Sorry, not under $400.

Get a revolver, SW 617.

I like diversity. Revolvers are fun, and I want one of those too, but the little autos are a fun to just blast away with.

I got the chance to shoot a friend's Walther P22 today, it's a very nice little pistol. His has the 5" model. My first 10 rds were all in the black on a 5" circle at 25'. Not spectacular I know, but pretty good for me offhand with a new gun. The trigger was smooth as glass and the white dot sights were SO much better than the Ruger's. This might be a winner.

Boss Man: Let's see one or two...If you show yours, I'll show mine.

BTW - The best 22. pistol I ever shot, was a Woodsman. The High Standard and Ruger are good, but the Colt's got them beat.

And just to stay on topic, here's a 22. that you can carry.

If your just after a reliable plinker, I had a S&W 422 that was fun to shoot and cheap. Check them out. If you want a target model you may want to go with one above.

Kaxter has me obsessed with building the ultimate 10/22 now. 22s are fun to shot b/c they can be accurate, cheap to buy, cheap to shoot and not loud. That bastard probably cost me a knife, b/c I am eyeing up my cases seeing who is going to go for this new MUST HAVE :doublefu:
