My S&W Hostage Rescue Team Boot Knife came yesterday
The leather sheath snap broke and the leather on the strap was all cracked. Luckily, I had a spare boot sheath, and a spare nylon belt sheath, that was from a SMKW 25th anniversary boot knife (Its the same size as the S&W) that I keep my computer table. The knife came with a needle point and a POLISHED razor edge. It has a blood groove (To allow easier removal of the knife from the enemy, and makes them bleed out faster) and a double guard (which allow you to parry you’re enemies slashes), which are important accessories on any knife that would see use as a weapon. This knife could be used as a utility knife (It says in the booklet that came with it that it is not a weapon, YEAH, RIGHT), but would be mediocre at best in that role. Its true purpose is a weapon, and that is what I expected when I bought it. I probably wont carry it much, due to the fact it is double edged, but if the neighborhood I live in goes to hell, you can bet it will be in my waistband. For now its main purpose is home defense, in other words, it stays on my nightstand/computer table. A bargain at $15.99

Wow
Yeah, I figured somebody'd nail that before I got the chance. :-D
LONEWOLF, those're a pair of common miconceptions. The "blood groove" on a blade (actually a "fuller") is there to make the blade lighter. It has no other function. The idea that it prevents the blade from "vacuum sealing" and lets blood run out of the wound with the blade in place is a myth. Ona blade this size, a fuller's for looks only.
And the double guard ain't for "parrying". It's to prevent your hand from sliding down the handle onto the blade when you stab. ;-)

You mean it is only a myth that those grooves are actually called fullers?

I know that you have not been here very long----We have had extensive threads on the subject of fullers and thier usefulness of lightening and Stiffining a blade.
We have even quoted the famous Sheep and Goat Killing tests of the British Government that proves the lack of Suction.
We like to Kid about it all the time.

GC,
Glad you now have the time.
We Have a running joke about Fullers.
I get ribbed about it all the time.
Every knife I put up on the Forum--I get the Blood Groove Rib Shot by a number of the Gang here.
Our Brother Lone Wolf is very Young but has learned a lot about knives and his post was a classic. If you re-read it--knowing that he was poking fun--you see his knowledge comin' through--Loud and Clear.
I'll give you the Alert---You will see a lot of Camo Blade--Mall Ninja Kidding too.:D:

LW, when you deanimate the Goth Vampire Emos we will be requiring pictars of the blood spray deflection pattern. You also might want to send the knife to Mike for his Ultra Super Techno Mall Ninja Teflon Impregnated Polka Dotted Camo Pattern blade coating to assist in the ease of withdrawl from the vacuum created by the blade. The Hott Pink and Purple combo is the sweetest :gogdog: PM inbound for the secret password :mike:

Dang LONE WOLF, I bought the E. R. Dobermann II over 2 years ago just 'cause I liked the name... you got a great memory! I haven't stuck anyone with it yet but I'm sure the slot in the blade serves some cool purpose for blood-letting! :spin:

The Blade is actually Mauve and the Camo Polka Dots are Lime Green.
It is a Secret combination that we Developed. You can conseal it anywhere--including the Glove Box of a Clown Car From the Circus.
Nobody would ever suspect it to be cleverly hidden there.
It took years to develop--In Absolute Secrecy.
We try to stay on the Cutting Edge of New Technology.

I've always wanted one of these:
http://www.eurochasse.com/images/Knives/randall/randall_13_12idagger/randall_13_12idagger_l.jpg
but without the stag.
They knew what they were doing when they issued the fairbairn-sykes dagger in WW2, and this is basically that on steroids! :wes:
Also, my ideal large toothpick would have the other style guard.....
