There is a mexican desert called FLAN. its a RICH custard dripping in a burnt carmel sauce that is clear watery and FULL of flavor.

There is a fine single malt Scottish Whiskey called Lagavulin, 16 years old and full of a SMOKEY PEATY richness that fills the senses. Smooth as can be...

THEY GO TOGETHER SO FUCKING WELL I CAN"T STAND IT.

If Early man had discovered these things there would be no need for GOD for all questions are answered.

And yes.... I am a fat Flan eating drunk mother fucker.

Amen, Brother Jim! :umberto: I'm going to have to look up my recipe for flan and post it, haven't made it in years. Emeril made flan not too long ago on his show. You could search for that one. I'm sure it's better than mine.

And yes.... I am a fat Flan eating drunk mother fucker.

We might be related.

I couldn't find my flan recipe, but this is almost identical to the way I remember making it. It's a very basic recipe. I saw tons of recipes for coconut flan, kahlua flan, orange flan, etc. Do a search for "flan recipes" and go crazy!!!:spin:

3/4 cup of sugar
1/4 cup of water
5 large eggs
1 can of evaporated milk
1 can of condensed milk
2 tbsp. vanilla extract
pinch of cinnamon
pinch of salt

Mix the sugar and water together in a heavy saucepan. Heat over medium-hi heat, without stirring, (only swishing, if necessary) until the syrup is melted and golden in color. (Large bubbles will form right before the syrup is ready). Remove immediately from heat and coat a 2 1/2 quart casserole with the sugar syrup and let it harden (about 10 minutes).

Add the remaining ingredients to a blender and blend approx. 30 seconds. Pour this into the casserole.

Place the casserole into a larger pan that is at least 2 inches deep. Place both of these into an oven that's been preheated to 350 degrees (F).
Pour hot water into the larger pan about halfway to the top of the casserole.

Bake for approximately one hour, until a knife (or toothpick) comes out clean when inserted into the center of the flan.

Let cool. Refrigerate.

When ready to serve, invert the flan onto a serving platter or plate. The caramel syrup will cover the flan.

Now if someone could just post an easy recipe for single malt Scotch, we'd be set.

Just pure luck... I was drinking scotch and remembered I had the flan...

And the rest is history. Seriously this combo is a hell of a discovery. Tesla and Edison don't have shit on this!
