View Full Version : Stay the course?

I need help. I have been after a pocket revolver for almost a year. Every time I get ready to make the purchase, I find something else I want instead. I am one week away from the next gun show and it looks like I would finally be able to make this one happen and now something else has caught my eye.
So what should I do?? Should I stay the course and get a 2" snubby, or should I try to add this one to my stable??

I'd say stick to the pocket revolver. Of course, I prefer to shoot my .44s out of steel guns so that is swaying my opinion some. Unless you are getting a smoking deal on the .44, I would stick to what you have been wanting. That way you can get on to your next want....:spin:

I have to agree. My 629 hurts, so I figure that Airlite is not going to be fun at all.

Man, I just found a local deal from a guy on Glocktalk for a Sig Revolution 1911 style pistol. While I am not even looking for another 1911 style pistol, its a smoking deal!!!!!!!!!! FTF without taxes, I am looking at almost a $300 savings on this one :ssad: I am too weak!! Must RESIST!

Fuck that .44...........very stout w/ full house loads. One of the few guns that I ever looked at and said "Fuck this" after I shot it. It would absolutely destroy my wrist now that I had it fused. Get a lightweight .38 and be done with it. I love mine. Food for thought....the Glock 26 is roughly the same size and holds twice the rounds +1.

Pocket revolver. 44 mag in an airlite doesn't sound fun.

You'll hate shooting that .44 alumibomb so much you won't get enough practice with it. Check out a model 60 .357 or something. Small as a .38 and still will shoot through car doors and such.

Mr. The BadGuy,
Thats a swell looking little piece there. I like the grips, but the cylinder makes it look like a kids toy. Regardless, a fine weapon for any occaision. I carry a SW model 36 snubbie in .38 special. Like my .45 1911, it goes where I go. They just give me such a comfie feeling...
Best regards,

So you guys think that 44 Mag Airlight would kick more than my side by side 410 derringer with the tiny birds head grips?

Badguy, You're still more than welcome to shoot the .357 before the show this weekend. But, if you get the .44, I REALLY want to shoot it...once, at least (but I'm just a bit of a recoil junkie).

Get a 640 or a 442, without that stupid keylock/ lint magnet/ internal parts breakage waiting to happen.
If you want the 357 effect, get a 640. If you only want +p 38's or 38 wadcutters get the 442.
And yeah, a scandium ultralight 44 will kick like a sonofabitch, no matter HOW tough you are. I'd rather dump two in the brainpan or chest than miss five out of five in an elevator.

If you are looking at the snubby for a carry gun, do the logical thing. Arrange for your personal safty FIRST, then buy "toys".

I agree, even though I have pleanty of carry guns, I often leave the house unarmed if I don't feel like dawning a holster, etc.. So I need a good pocket gun
I think I am definatly going to stick with a 38 and I definalty want some Crimson Trace grips on this one so the best choice for my money would be the 642 as they have a package where they already come with the grips. However, I really don't want a stainless finish so I would prefer a 340 PD. They are even hard to find online (IE Gunboker) I am just going to have to see what the gun show offers. I will go with the gun I want best and worry about the grips, etc.. afterwards

I don't know... 44 pages of 642 love may help me get over the difference in finish

Ok, in my typical fashion I am going to perform one last flop on this one.
I had the opportunity today to handle a 642 side by side with a 340PD. I am now without a doubt going to purchase a 340PD w/ the high vis sight at the gun show this weekend. B/C of the difference in price with the 642 w/CT, I may have to pick up the CT grips at a later date, but those are just accessories
The 340PD is 3 oz lighter and while that sounds trivial, it is a noticeable difference. Also, I like the high vis sight much better than the "canal" on the 642 and I also prefer the finish on the 340PD. Add all that with the ability to carry magnum loads and practice with 38s, its a definite now.
Now to find one at the show out the door for around $700. The gun shop today was asking $709.99 with tax, I was looking at $750 out the door. I hope to do better this weekend

In all seriousness very few no kick like I. NOT tooting my horn this isnt a smart thing but fact is I have ASLOT of SHORT Shotties. i have a 5 inch 12 ga. that kicks less than my scandium .357. I hear of MAJOR bullet seating issues due to recoil with this .44 TGB and that should concern you more than anything. MY opinion split the diff. as i have go 325PD. Light weight 20+Oz. Snubby BUT NOT to snubby and in a formidable cart. 45acp! Your a smart man you'll make the right decision, Id hit you with some pics but due to some tech diff. on JZ now NO longer can sir. All the best and as always email me if you need me!

I think I am going to stay away from the 44 mag. Airlite. I am excited to try out some mag. loads in the 340 PD though :deadevil:

It's difficult to have BOTH worlds: small, light and concealable OR minimal recoil, good control and accuracy...
Personally, I say FUCK concealability! Let's the fuckers off with a visual warning!:stupid: And then if they still want beef, give then some tenderizer!

Another option is get the .44 and shoot specials. It is a fine cartridge in its own right and should be alot more pleasant in a light weight.

Tomorrow is the day. I CAN NOT believe the stuff I have read about the recoil of the 340PD with some magnum loads. People talk like its just plain tear inducing. I can't wait to try it out and see if its all hype or not in regards to felt recoil. It is going to be one of those "not leave the house without" type guns, so if comfort in shooting is sacrificed for comfort in carry, I can deal with that

Before I had my wrist fused, I shot quite a few 158gr 357 rounds down the tube of a 340. Biggest complaint was getting the knuckle of my middle finger rapped by the recoil. Stout, but not near as bad as that .44.
