Made this move up flipping yesterday. Just wondering if its actually something new or not. Made an open and closed version of it. Opinions?

I don't think it's really a new move. More of a combo.

Looks like a combo of existing to me, but greens out for a cool avatar.:bwah:

If you put moves that are already well known in the community together it doesnt make a new move, it makes a combo.
Keep making videos though man i enjoy watching new flippers.

It's a nice ending to a thumbroll. I'd probably not classify it as a move on it's own. But definitely a great way to end a combo. Nice that you asked for the consensus of the flipping community on if it was new or not rather than claiming it for yourself.

I would like to see you do a tut on that. Its just a thumb rollover, but you pull your thumb out and put some extra spin. Would love to see your tutorial posted in this thread so everyone can see it better.

thats a fresh looking combo bro.
i dont know how many "new moves" are left under the sun. thats almost like saying a painter has discovered a new brush stroke.
but we can always expand and innovate like you have here.
greens sent.

People said that before the exo, finger twirl, zero gravity, hack
aerial, double scissor, zero grav helix... I could go on and on.
Most of those tricks named came within the past year or two as
well. Never set limits for yourself. There is a lot of unchartered
territory out there.

As others have mentioned... nothing new. I do it all the time but use the index, middle or ring fingers instead of the thumb.
I think the first time I saw it was in one of Balian Fabisongs vids.... which is probably a good 4-5 years old.

I do not think you are viewing it right because it can not be done with the index, middle, or ring finger.

Yeah you can, you just have to be a little quicker with your fingers. There are subtle differences based on which finger you use, but in essence it's the same move.
I believe L. Buddha ended with a pretty bitchin and far more complicated variant of it during his entry for this months competition. It's on page 11 of that thread if you missed it. At least I think that's what he did, dude moves fast.
Oh yeah, in the area above the typing box there's a little button with a word bubble inside, that will let you properly quote others.

I watched it again and saw a roll out, reverse chaplin, Y2k into ice pick.
It sure looks the same as what Balian does... and yes it can be done of any finger. Maybe I'm still missing something idk, if so do a break down vid.

Maybe your right... i'd like to see you do it with other fingers to further my understanding.

Sure. I'm at work atm... so can't link Balian's vid. But tonight when I get home if I get time I'll do a quick vid. I'll use your same combo but will change the fingers around (reverse chap around the middle finger to index roll into icepick ... or reverse chap around the ring finger to middle finger roll into ice pick).
If you want to see one now, as Bently mentioned have a look at my JD vid. I do one off the index finger after the scissor. I think it was in the JD comp before this months that I did one off my ring finger.

yes this has balian wrote all over it! i see it very easily now that its been pointed out to me.
and thats a big complement. balian is/was a great flipper.
i wonder whats up with ol' guy. he was really before my time.
but i would watch his old videos, with the comments disabled, and be amazed at his knifery.
i could tell he was very unliked. trying to sell dvds of himself or something. also so saw a couple of slam videos on him that were pretty funny. doing drugs on your bali videos sets a bad image also.
im sure he wasnt helping our cause any. he probably disappeared for a reason.
but still, i wonder about ol' dude. hope he is ok, that was a lot of damn white powder he snorted in that one video. like a whole lot. :ssad:
in my opinion, it looks like we have new blood that can pick up where he left off.

If you watch any of Balian's vids he does a shit load of chaplin variations or chaplin to aerial such as above.
He was before my time as well, but by all account's was an ass who didn't conduct himself very well on any of the forums. I think that if you don't have any support from the community because of assery you won't last no matter how good you are.
Its a shame really because the dude was one of the best.

Yep, pretty much the exact same. If you do it with your thumb you dont have to have it leave your hand. Basically, mine was just a tiny tweak of Balians. Thanks for posting that .

point taken. i guess when i said that, i meant it in my own little world.
yet at the same time i could play devils advocate since im familiar with your personage, and i dont think you would get all butt hurt over it.
a double scissor is just expanding upon an existing idea. not actually brand new.
same for the zero g. a great move that i would not have discovered on my own, im sure. but sorta still an upside down chaplin. same move on a different plain. ( plane? no, plain (?) idk... )
all helixes are combos. its new stuff indeed. but i think we're viewing the word 'move' in a different light perhaps.
i cant argue with a hack aerial though, thats pretty much a new move.
but im sure 5 years from now flipping will look fresh compaired to today. so in that sense you make a good point.
at least i assume it will look fresh. only time will tell. ill tell ya what, if we both still not dead in 2017, we'll meet here and start a thread about it :bwah:
looking forward to seeing ya here! :manganr:
