Ishapore Enfield, .308. I paid $195+$20 shipping (C&R liscence). Looks to be in good condition - I'll give 'er a thorough disassembly and cleaning tomorrow.

Not a bad choice--but have it headspaced before shooting it, better safe than sorry. A lot of conversions like that on old military guns aren`t headspaced properly.

It's not a conversion, it was manufactured in 7.62x51.

1966. The Ishapores were made in India. It had previously been a British colony - naturally, it was producing Mk III Enfields. When India gained their independence, they needed their own arms, and kept producing the Mk III. However, they decided to jump on the 7.62 nato bandwagon, rather than continue with the .303 cartridge.

Thanks for that info--I`ve seen many 303s that were converted--not by an arsenal--but privately done , and I wouldn`t shoot them until they were headspaced--but you are in high cotton--shoot and enjoy--let us know how it groups.

Never a truer word was spoken--unless you collect certain rifles for that certain calibre. Always wise to shoot something that you will always be able to get ammo for.

You need to move to a warmer Climate--cold here--and I`m considering moving further South or Southweast--for I hate the cold.

Yar. I've considered moving to Texas, because they're warm and have the best gun laws next to Vermont, but then I remember how I have a habit of pissing out my window because I'm too lazy to walk down the hall, and I realize I'm probably not going anywhere.

i actually was going to be in vermont for the new year but our friends decided not to go up anymore. they have a house right by the Okeimo mountain. however the hell that is spelled.

Está muy bien. So far I've only fired 20 rounds at 50 yards, just to test 'er out (I hate the cold), but it seems she's in good condition. No problems with the extractor. Accuracy seemed very good, although I was just shooting at junk on a sand bank. I'm not sure if I mentioned earlier, but all the serial numbers are matching. Now I just need a sling and a bayonet.
