So, word of warning to my fellow GPS-users. Stay the FUCK away from Magellan stuff. Cripes, just bought one the other day with all the lifetime updates and soforth, and it can't even figure out where my friggin' house is! We've been here for EIGHTEEN years, and it says the street doesn't exist. And that's AFTER the most recent map update. Won't find stores, won't find addresses, the speed limits for roads are 50% wrong, and the shown position always seems to be lagging behind by about a hundred yards. That way, you get to make a lot of U-turns!

Sucker's going back to Costco tomorrow, when will I learn to start checking reviews BEFORE I buy stuff. *Facedesk*

Well geeze, take ALL the sport out of it, why don't you? Actually, the directions sucked. All it came with was a "quick start" guide that had two pages in English, then eighteen in nine other languages. It wasn't that it was hard to USE, it just couldn't FIND any place. And, you know, that's kinda what the damned thing is made for.

Swapped it out for a Garmin that has higher than a 1.5-star rating on Amazon, we'll see how this goes. Good lord the map packs take a long time to download!

The first time I looked for my house using Google Earth, it displayed a map showing a non-existant street (!) between my house and my next-door neighbor....I`d like to know where the fuck they got THAT one from.... :ross:

i picked up a cheapshit little GPS from Radioshack a couple of years ago, a Mio. the battery in it is completely fucked now, so it has to be plugged in to work, but it's been pretty good so far. i paid about $40 for it.

Well, so far the Garmin appears to be entirely free of the problems the Magellan had. Much better and more complete mapping data as well.

I think some of the GPS units are sponsored by EXXON. They direct you around the block rather than straight ahead....

Hmm... you do have to wonder, don't you? That'd be pretty much the IDEAL conspiracy. Even if it was only 1% or so more fuel per trip, you'd hardly notice... but times half the US that's using them? That's CASH right there!
