Damage Plan/Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell is dead following a bizarre shooting during a Damageplan concert in Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday night.

Five people including Darrell were killed and two people were injured when a gun-man jumped onstage and opened fire during the bands first song at Alrosa Villa nightclub in Columbus, Ohio just after 10pm.

The gunman ran onto the stage and fired into the band and crowd while many people initially thought he was part of the act. A security guard tackled the gunman, and the gunman was shot dead.

Dimebag Darrell, born Darrell Lance Abbott in Dallas, Texas on August 20, 1966 formed the legendary heavy metal group Pantera in 1982 with his brother Vinnie Paul on drums and bassist Rex Smith. Vinnie is also a member of Damage Plan.

Their glam metal days changed in 1990 with their major label debut (5th album in total and 2nd with new singer Phil Anselmo). 'Cowboys From Hell' spurred the sound that would change the shape of modern metal.

Pantera disbanded in 2003, years after they had released any new material. Soon after the demise of Pantera, Dimebag and his brother formed the more nu-metal focused Damageplan (that still featured Dimebag's signature guitar tone).

No shit, those guys glamorize violence and drivebys. This dude was just jamming out. That would have been a concert to never forget if you were up front. Glad that dude wasted this scum bag so we don't have to waste tax payers money on a trial :punish:

I saw this on CNN. They gave the impression it was an LEO that waxed the scumbag. Was he off-duty and just happened to be at the concert then?

What a fucking loss... I just read this here too... I'm glad the shooter got wasted in the act, although if he didn't I wonder if he was like the guy who shot John Lenin... a physotic fan with a warped sense of way of showing his appreciation?

Mr. SuperD,

It was a LEO who waxed the scumbag. He was on duty in the immediate vacinity when the 911 call came in. He didn't waste any time confronting the shooter with a shotgun blast to the head. Appearantly, the shooter had a hostage in a headlock and was about to murder him when the hostage made a move and gave the cop a clean shot at the shooter.

An excellent job well done by the LEO.

Best regards,

Bonz

12 guage 00 Buckshot to the face at 20 feet tends to end an agrument really quickly....I just hope the LEO doesn't agonize over taking a life and focus on the lives he saved.

As they say in Texas: "He needed killin'"

Wow, I wonder what type of ammo he was using. 00 I am guessing? Impressive LEO, sounds like he dropped him without question.

Not much....

I guess the shooter had written out the lyrics to a couple of Pantera songs and told some friends that he had written it and the band had stolen his songs (a couple of years ago). He was reportedly a die hard Pantera fan and listend to their music before playing for a small, semi-pro football team here in Ohio.

Other than that, he's just some lunatic who snapped, went psycho, and unfortunately, took 4 people with him.
